Getting nowhere fast!!!

Hi everyone,
I have a windows with an XP operating system & Norton firewall(more trouble than it seems to be worth). We have been trying to establish a port # for both Limewire & Norton to no avail. Our download speed per our provider is 1,500 & upload is 1,000 which he says is equivalent to a T1 but we do have cable. Our windows firewall is set to non-functional & we were also told that the router with this internet connection does give us some firewall protection. We have downloaded the latest version of Java which is 6 update 2. We still are stuck at level one on the connection bars. Extremely frustrated and my mind is spinning at what to try to do next. I think my daughter might have been right and just done it the "free way" at least things got done and I must say EXTREMELY faster than this.

I just want to get some songs, is that asking too much??

Thanks and any guidance would be extremely helpful to get this to work!!!

Thanks,
JoAnne:(

RE: getting nowhere Fast

Hello and thanks for the response,

I believe I tried to give you as much as I could from the e-mail sent.

It is a Dell, Windows XP, RAM unsure of at this point. Been using the router method, same # for Limewire & Norton. Speaking of which Norton is the main antivirus, etc. protector. We do have the Windows version turned off. The provider is thru Qwest, I spoke with one of the reps and he says that our download speed is 1500 and the upload is 1000. Our ability is closer to a T1 than cable per his take. He also mentioned that the router thru the cable internet does provide some antivirus protection but was not specific. We are running the Limewire Pro and the Java upgrade says 1.6.0_02 There aren't any other computers system, we have run the original Limewire without any problem. There is a firewall on the bottom of the screen. We are home connecting. As far as RAM & hard disc space I can give that to you later if absolutely necessary. Country USA.

I hope that helps you some, because I really am finding this almost not worth the expense, my mind is completely fried!!!

Thanks again and I hope you can be my Knight in shining armour!!

JoAnne

You've left out some important details.

What is the brand & model of your modem/router (the firewall that LW detects might be within your router)?
Where are you connecting from (house, appartment complex etc)?
What version of LW are you using?

PLEASE stop including your email details in every post...read the forum rules:p
Forum Rules

After using the basic version & upgrading to the Pro version, it's always a good idea to do the following:
Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Sorry about using my e-mail address EVERY SINGLE TIME, I thought that might be a little easier, and so sorry I skimmed the forum rules, new to the game here as you very well know.

Router thru windows XP Professional home use, everything has been deleted as of last nite(hopefully) and still having problems with slow connection.

Thanks Birdy,

JoAnne

Or if you really don't want to answer those questions:p, this has worked for some people.
