Could we have a few more details, please?
System details - help us to help you (click here)

First thing to try is: Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Did you delete LW's preferences folder? It's a good idea to do that after upgrading;)

Make sure that the XP firewall is off & that the PC Tools firewall is configured to allow LW.

Did you have LW on the laptop before you bought Pro? Did you always see the firewall icon & do you see if on the desktop?

If you can find the model of the router, we might be able to find instructions for port forwarding.

A few people had weird connection issues with an earlier Java update (1.6.0_01)...are you using Java 6 u 2 on the desktop? I'm using the latest update & it's fine for me, but if you like you can try installing this older Java on the laptop...if it makes no difference then you can always reinstall 6 update 2 again. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one.

Quite a few people had this problem with Java 6 update 1...you're the first one I've seen who has the problem with update 2 :)
Like I said, I have update 2 & LW works fine (but it did for me with update 1 as well, it's only some people that seem to have trouble).

Keep the link to the Java version that works for you, or use the forum search here to find it. When the next Java update comes around, give it a try & if things go bad you can always reinstall the Java that works for you:D
