Connection Problems

I am having trouble connecting. I've just installed limewire and I tried to search for an artist and clicked on ok. Then a little message pops up saying "Limewire is currently connecting to the network.Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network"

I am currently on a network at home (connected to one modem) and there are currently 2 other computers connected to the home network.
I've tried installing and uninstalling limewire to retry and the same problem comes up. The bar at the bottom left hand corner only has one green bar and the rest are all red. I have a globe behind a wall. I'm guessing this is the fire wall.

Whats the problem??

I'm having the same problem.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Norton and then the Windows firewall
3. How much ram? plenty
4. Hard Disk space available? Plenty brand new computer
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? dont have router and dont know modem
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.9.33
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? SITCO (formerly Ohio Valley Wireless)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It said "Your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. p2p i guess since we dont have another computer
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. ive used LW at a friends house numerous times but this is the first time at my house on my computer
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnp is enabled
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :) Norton
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA

I'm having the same problem as melorapana and I have macbook pro with OS 10.4.10. I wanted to try to find the tcp and udp port numbers to reset my firewall but I don't know where to find that info.

taylor23,

Don't use Windows & Norton firewalls together. Configure the Norton firewall to allow LW & disable the XP firewall;)

What version of Java are you using? Some people have had connection problems with Java versions 1.6.0_01 & 1.6.0_02. Try this version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version(s) before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that's no help, you could download the latest version of LW (4.14.0) & see whether that will connect. Use the offline installer. When you click to download LW & a download box pops up, cancel that. Now you'll see the option to download the offline installer.
If you don't have the 4.9.33 installer saved, you'll lose that version if you install another version of LW.

If you're still stuck, have a look at your modem & find it's brand & model number (look underneath as well).

lynlord56,

Sorry but I'm not a Mac user. Hopefully the thread below will help you with the OSX firewall.
Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger Firewall instructions

And this one for finding your preferences & LW's listening port.

If not, use the forum search to look through older threads. You could also check out the Mac OSX section;)

:confused:I am having the same problem and went through all that was advised and it still says ' limewire is currently connecting you to the network.....

I downloaded the new Java version and it didn't work. I also checked the firewall situation but Norton already allows LW and the XP firewall was already turned off. Is there any way I can get Limewire Pro 4.14.0 without paying $18.

Download the basic (free) version & see if that works:p
