Connection Problems I am having trouble connecting. I've just installed limewire and I tried to search for an artist and clicked on ok. Then a little message pops up saying "Limewire is currently connecting to the network.Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network" I am currently on a network at home (connected to one modem) and there are currently 2 other computers connected to the home network. I've tried installing and uninstalling limewire to retry and the same problem comes up. The bar at the bottom left hand corner only has one green bar and the rest are all red. I have a globe behind a wall. I'm guessing this is the fire wall. Whats the problem?? |
Please give us your details;) System details - help us to help you (click here) |
I'm having the same problem. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? Norton and then the Windows firewall 3. How much ram? plenty 4. Hard Disk space available? Plenty brand new computer 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? dont have router and dont know modem 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.9.33 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? SITCO (formerly Ohio Valley Wireless) 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It said "Your test worked!" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. p2p i guess since we dont have another computer 12. I'm having the same problem as melorapana and I have macbook pro with OS 10.4.10. I wanted to try to find the tcp and udp port numbers to reset my firewall but I don't know where to find that info. thanks lynlord56 |
oh I have a school firewall but it shouldn't be a problem. lyn |
taylor23, Don't use Windows & Norton firewalls together. Configure the Norton firewall to allow LW & disable the XP firewall;) What version of Java are you using? Some people have had connection problems with Java versions 1.6.0_01 & 1.6.0_02. Try this version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version(s) before you install this one. Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 If that's no help, you could download the latest version of LW (4.14.0) & see whether that will connect. Use the offline installer. When you click to download LW & a download box pops up, cancel that. Now you'll see the option to download the offline installer. If you don't have the 4.9.33 installer saved, you'll lose that version if you install another version of LW. If you're still stuck, have a look at your modem & find it's brand & model number (look underneath as well). lynlord56, Sorry but I'm not a Mac user. Hopefully the thread below will help you with the OSX firewall. Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger Firewall instructions And this one for finding your preferences & LW's listening port. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/276212-post2.html If not, use the forum search to look through older threads. You could also check out the Mac OSX section;) |
:confused:I am having the same problem and went through all that was advised and it still says ' limewire is currently connecting you to the network..... |
I downloaded the new Java version and it didn't work. I also checked the firewall situation but Norton already allows LW and the XP firewall was already turned off. Is there any way I can get Limewire Pro 4.14.0 without paying $18. |
Download the basic (free) version & see if that works:p |
i'm having the same problem. i downloaded limewire about 4 or 5 hours ago and i have only one green bar. this is not the first time this has happened for me. i forgot how many hours it took to connect. |

I'm having a somewhat similar problem. Recently I can no longer share files due to a firewall, however I've told Norton to allow Limewire, and the specific port to allow as well, and I am not using two different firewalls. Basically I've done all of the trouble shooting and still no luck. What else is there? |
I started out with the basic version of LW and it didn't work which is why I got LW Pro because I hoped it would work. Also when I disabled both firewalls there was still a brick wall in front of the earth at the bottom on LW. There shouldn't be one there should there? |
Connection Problem I am having the same connection problems and I have tried all the trouble shooting information that comes with the help menu but I can not get the firewall to go away and my connectivity to show up. please help |

I got on Dell's website and looked to see what modem they put in the computer I have, which is an E520, and the only modem it had listed to install into that style of computer was a 56K PCI Data Fax Modem. I don't know if this is helpful or not. Hopefully it is. |
Do you have an external modem? Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 (or try other ports in the range of 49152 - 65535) > Apply > ok. It looks like SITCO also offer a firewall. SITCO - Services Any chance that their firewall's part of your internet package? Just have a check to see about that. |
I do not have an external modem. I tried changing LW listening port to 64049 with no luck. This is straight from Sit-co's website but I'm not sure their firewall is part of our internet package though. My friend also has Sit-co, the same version of LW, and the same windows and LW has always worked just fine for him. 6. What's the security level of the connection? With SITCO, you get the most secure connection to the Internet available today. Our Secure Wireless Internet Access incorporates a robust and redundant security system of firewalls and intrusion detection systems. Your link to us is a one-to-one or point-to point connection. Using a firewall system from SITCO virtually hides you from the Internet while allowing you to have access to everything you need on the Internet. Access the Internet safely knowing you are protected and invisible from hackers and other Internet related insecurities. |
You'll need to check whether there's a SITCO firewall in place. Sometimes there's an option to change the level of firewall protection (eg low, medium or high)...you'd have to find out about that from your ISP. Just because your friend uses the same ISP, doesn't necessarily mean that you have the same plan, the same options, the same download allowance, the same features with your package....see what I mean?:) Something you could try is deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 (there could be a folder in either location). Fixes for LimeWire This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. If you find that you don't have an ISP firewall & if deleting the prefs folder does nothing...send me a PM & I'll give you a link to download an earlier version of LW. Some versions behave strangely for some people. |
Could you please send me the earlier version of LW to download. I'll try it and if it doesn't work i'll guess i'll have to use another source to download songs. |
