Question Help Me please (used to connect but now can't)

Hi I have been using Limewire for 4 years and have had no problem. Now all of a sudden I cannot connect. When I used to start it up, I would have a turbo charged connection in no time, now it takes while and I only get a fair connection now. This is my software set up:

Windows XP sp2
Spybot Search & Destroy
AVG 7.5
DSL

Someone Please Help!

First thing to try: Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Which version of Java are you using? Lots of people had connection problems with Java 1.6.0_01 & some have also had trouble with update 2. Try this version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If neither of those help, please give us your details.

Did you try rolling back your Java version (some people have had connection problems after installing the last 2 Java updates) & deleting LW's preferences folder??

If the test page can't be displayed, something's blocking LW's default port. Could be your ISP? Change ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 (if that doesn't help, try other ports in the range of 49152 - 65535) > Apply > ok.

Double check that your XP firewall's allowing LW.

Also check that you don't have a Windstream firewall running...this Windstream user had a problem with their firewall.

Try port forwarding for your Speedstream, the instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Efficient(Siemens) Speedstream 5200
Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router all have to be the same number

I finally got my turbo charged connection back! Come to find out that it was my ISP firewall. It was set to high so I went into my admin settings and turned it down a bit. Thanks for all your help birdy
