Ok... Try a different Java...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

For some reason the lw preference folder does not exist under documents and settings. lw did not create this folder when installed. What should I do because I've reinstalled lw twice and the folder is not being created.

Hi i was using limewire beta version 4.13 with no problems and now i just download 4.14.2 and it wont even connect to the network. I am using windows vista ultimate (32bit) i have 1G Ram core duo processor with each core at 1.66, my firewall program is zonealarm (witch i have allowed liwewire from it) my internet connection is dsl (from a usb modem)... Oh and i just checked the running processes on the task manager and it has 3 processes of limewire running even though i have shut done the program(Its not running minimized and its not on the toolbar at the notification area next to the clock) So can someone plz tell me why the beta version 4.13 had no problems and now 4.14.2 wont even connect to the network? I have included a picture that shows 3 processes of limewire running even though the program has been closed. P.S. i dont have a virus just in case anyone thinks this is why its happening, because i just formated my pc and re-installed windows. Oh and my version of java is 6 update 2(only this version is capable with vista). Someone plz help. thanks

Select the End Process for each of those limewire.exe's and then start Limewire back up again...
If it does it again, end it again and leave it closed, then delete your preference folder..
Location of Limewire Preference Folder in Vista..

Once you have found the folder follow the steps on deleting the LimeWire folder...

This is what UK bob has suggested...
I have looked through ibizavaio posts and, although I am not familiar with Vista, I do not see anything wrong with processes running before or after a program starts or ends.

I have noticed on my own XP PC, when checking Task Manager, that LW will start up a process before the LW program starts running. I have also noticed that when LW is started for the second and subsequent times after being closed down it will start up slightly faster than before. I'm guessing that there may be some processes that keep running until the PC is switched off (or this could be a Vista "speed enhancement" feature [Grandpa maybe able to throw some light on this point]).

However, processes running before the program properly starts, i.e. awaiting user input, is the way I believe windows works. For example, I am sure that you have pressed an icon for a program and windows seem to do nothing but you notice the hard disk light flashing. At a guess, I would say that windows is setting up the pre-program processes before giving you the program to use.

UK Bob

So after saying that it leads me to believe your problem lays with Java...
Vista doesn't have to run on 6.2 it can run with earlier versions...

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Let me know if that helps...

kamus August 7th, 2007 08:58 PM

I'll runnig lw 2.4.4 pro. If uninstalling and reinstalling does not create the preference folder, then what should I do.

wondering why August 7th, 2007 11:00 PM

That's such an old version...Save the installer and try downloading the latest version and see if you have any trouble with that...;)

Hey wondering why, upgrading to the new version of lw did the trick. lw is up and screaming. thanks a million.
