What is the difference between "peer" and "ultrapeer"? I am running a limewire 4.14 variant on linux. (Variant because i have tweaked some of the source and re-compiled. Tweaked the GUI and forced ultrapeer mode) I can successfully connect but it seems to come up in two different modes: A - 0 ultrapeers 23 peers 0 leaves B - 32 ultrapeers 0 peers 0 leaves What is the difference between peers and ultrapeers? I have LW Pro on the same machine. When if I start my 4.14 variant *after* LW Pro I get option B above. If I restart 4.14 variant (eg; 4.14 after 4.14) I get option A. I presume this is to do with limewire.props. What decides peer versus ultrapeer? Thanks |
This should help... Ultrapeers - LimeWire |
ultrapeer vs peer Quote:
However what is a peer? Just a plain "peer". The LW Connection screen shows: 0 Ultrapeers 23 Peers 0 Leaves So what is a peer in that context, and how did I get to be one instead of an Ultrapeer? Or didn't I read that article well enough? Thanks again |
We are all Peers, but an Ultrapeer is decided on your connection, bandwidth and so on.... Here is a little more about how it all works... GnuFU - Wikisource |
OK thanks again for the help. I think I will have to give up on trying to understand this. I get what an ultrapeer is and how it works. I get what a leaf is and how it works. I don't get what a peer is. Why does the LW connection screen show THREE types of connection: ultrapeer, peer and leaf? Why a peer, not an ultrapeer, not a leaf but a peer? Guess I am too stupid to work it out, so will have to accept it! :) Quote:
