Firewall blocking downloads???

Hi,
ive used limewire on my previous pc but now i have a new one im having a few problems.
Ive managed to download limewire after turning off the protection on norton secruity which was for 15 minutes.
Once the 15 minutes was up the security must have come back on and is now blocking any downloads.
How can i get around this apart from turning off the security permantley which surely wouldnt be a good idea?

Thanks :D

Firewall Blocking

:bangh: I too am now having problems with firewall blocking I think. I just downloaded v4.14 PRO LW and Peerguardian. I even turned Peer guardian off to see if that would help. In addition to all the other issues I'm having with this newest version of LW PRO, this has to happen too.:mad2: How do I figure out how to configure the firewall? I don't want to not use one at all and leave myself wide open for disaster. The firewall I've been using hasn't been a problem up to now. The only changes are an upgrade of LW and installing Peerguardian. How do I answer those 16 questions without retyping every one of them into a new message:confused:

Copy and paste the questions into your reply window...;) Then we will see what may be causing your firewall...
PeerGuardian won't be causing you issues....

Ok let's start with Trend Micro P-Cillin...
Follow these instructions and see if you have it configured correctly...
Port Forwarding for the Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security

Also your Router has a Nat Firewall...
These are your instructions to Port Forward...
Port Forwarding for the Trendnet TEW-432BRP

See how you get on with that and let me know how you go...

Uhhhhhhh

:bangh: Well I guess I forgot to mention that my P-Cillin version is Internet Security 14, not the 2007 one I saw on the link you gave me so the instructions were quite confusing since I had some different features. I tried it anyway and at the end of all that my program wouldn't accept the new rule. Ithen took a look at the router instructions and quickly gave up. I did manage to go in and set my Limewire to the manual port thing but it was already enabled for the unp thingy which is the recommended option so I hope I haven't screwed things up. I set the maual port number to the same one as the listening port was already set to since the instructions said to just pick a port. did I mention that my connection status in limewire always says turbo-charged? I can download files and others can upload. It just seems that there are fewer search results and slower spped for searches and downloads than there were before i upgraded past the 4.12 versions. well actuall 4.13 worked fine for a little while before going all buggy on me. What I'm really asking is do I really need to do all this if I actually have a connection? I am able to download files, just not as many or as fast as before on many of them. I still do get some higher speed ones but not often.

wondering why August 11th, 2007 03:43 PM

If your downloading and uploading fine you don't have to worry about Port Forwarding...But it could be the cause of slow search results and download speed...

cosimaf August 11th, 2007 04:09 PM

I think what I'm going to do is to go back and reinstall the earlier version I was using before the 4.13. I think that 4.12 had that search feature in the library that I really want and need since I have over 3000 files. or I could try 4.13 again and maybe the next download of it will be better than the last one. If I uninstall limewire completely and all the old folders of the previous versions before reinstalling, will I lose all my files and have to start over? I'm not sure if all the upgrades I've done just installs over the old versions and leaves them or if it deletes them first. If they're still there I could just go back and find it and use that and uninstall this version.

wondering why August 11th, 2007 04:15 PM

No need to uninstall, just install the version you want to use know over the top of your existing limewire...

If you do choose to uninstall make sure you use the Limewire uninstaller, which you will find in Start > All Programs > Limewire/Uninstaller...
Dont' use the add/remove programs...
Your files will all still be there if you do choose the uninstall option...;)
