![]() Hello everyone. Here goes; IBM Thinkpad G40 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows Xp 2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall? 3. How much ram? 256 4. Hard Disk space available? > 10gig5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Dialup 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Internal 56K 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House/ hard land line 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 14.4 Java 1.5.0-06_b05 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Bellsouth.net 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? " Your Test Worked! " 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Not sharing the connection 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem? I've had LimeWire fo several years, haven't been using it, though 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? tried both 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall ![]() Laptop orginaly had Norton's, was stripped out by Microsoft (was JOB!), am now running AVG, problem was there before I reinstalled AVG 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA If this get long winded, sorry, but as the sticky says you can't help without info, I need all the help I can get! Have this comp and a desktop, both had LW 4.10 and worked well. Had major bug infestion and removed Norton from the laptop, installed AVG on both comps. If I unplug phone line from this laptop and plug into desktop, LW works fine, slowly (PII 350Mhz) has full connectivty. On laptop would never connect. I removed LW {via add/remove panel} and installed LW 14.4, has same problem. I've been searching and reading the forum for 2 days now, have tried everything that looked possiable, opened ports, added ports, closed ports, shut down windows firewall. One note, Windows Firewall has never asked me for a exception for LW. If I remove the exception, it reappears the next time I start LW! Am thinking that I have mangled a service during the virus debug. Also, I am downloading the Java file that is mentioned else where, but I do not think that the Java files are the problem, as I'm running very close build on both this machine and the desktop. Could the reload be reseting said services? If not the Java package, could the uninstall via program instead of the add/ remove panel be resetting something? Any suggestions, thoughts, PHD's will help, am hoping to get serious discussion going as I would like to root out the core problem. |

![]() I Fixed IT!!!! I've gotten LW running. I will post here in the hope that it will help others. I started the management console/ services, restarted {set to automatic} 3 services that had been disabled. Uninstalled LW via uninstall program. searched and erased everything named "LimeWire" as per mickjapa108's instruction in another thread. Finally reloaded LW via off line installer, also mickjapa108's instructions. LW started up on first try. Please note, this installer spent a noticable amount of time "removing old versions of Limewire" during install. So, Thanks for the help, and maybe this will help some one else, too. |

![]() Hi FastKat which services have to be started? I have a lot of services at the status disabled or manually, but I think it's not useful to set all of them to auto. Why is Limewire not dedecting a failing servcie and reporting that? br Karl |

![]() Hi Karl I agree that not all services should be on auto. One of the services was 'Messenger', which is NOT the IE Messenger (IM). I spilled coke over my notes last night, I can't read the rest of them! Sorry! If you use netstat and tasklist you can verify whether or not the ports are opening. If they are, the problem is likely a service, I think. And no, many programs do NOT check/verify if needed services are valid. In trying to fix my pc, I thought I saw a area that the LW developers could be posted to? If so, might be time to ask the pros? I wish you could send me a status of your services, I'm curious and want to nail this down, it might help alot of other connect problems. |
