firewall active when they're not.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows xp
2. What firewalls you have? mcaffee, windows
3. How much ram? 71.2 gb
4. Hard Disk space available? 45.5
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? rca DCM425
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. lw 4.14.4 java 1.5.0_11
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Persona
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? my test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. all i know is that it's called utorrent
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new problem with experienced user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? i try to go to the sight for setting up upnp but it never goes through
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Mcaffee
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). canada

I've tried alot to see if I can fix this problem, even getting rid of utorrent. The connection bar is at one and it says I have a firewall active but I've checked both firewalls and they both are allowing full access. I can't go to port forward cause I don't have the money for it, I can't check the upnp because my computer won't go to that site. I've deleted .limewire three times and installed it again and again. Is there anything I can do. It's also the same problem with Kazaa and Morpheus.

You shouldn't have two firewalls active at the same time.(they'll interfere with each other). Turn off your windows firewall and make sure McAfee is configured to allow LW access to the internet. Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center

Not sure about your modem, it may need configured. There's some info on it here: Cable Modem Support / RCA Modems. Are you also using a router? If so, what's the make and model?

I don't think I'm using a router. The link you gave me was the right modem number but mine looks entirely different. I tried the port forwarding for the mcaffee security and nothing happend.

Ok, I don't know how to configure my modem and I don't know if I'm using a router, I doubled checked mcaffee and it says that limewire is allowed but I still it says that there's a firewall.

Did you shut off your xp firewall?

Try uninstalling limewire and mcaffe, the reinstall limewire first then install mcafee.

I've done that and it didn't work. XP firewall is disabled.

Well, UPnP is a facility you have to activate within XP, it used to be turned on by default but I don't think it is anymore.

Anyway, you have to turn on UPnP in three things, they are:

a) Windows XP - You may need to go to the MS site to find out to do this.

2) LimeWire - There is a radio button on Options >> Tools >> Firewall that you click in order to activate UPnP in LW.

3) Your modem - Your modem's userguide should tell you how to activate UPnP in your modem. If you no longer have your userguide then phone up your modem's help desk, they should be able to guide you.

Once you have UPnP activated in all three items your firewall, which is in front of the globe, should vanish.

Good Luck.

No router

It doesn't show a router option in my network connections.
