Unhappy Limewire 4.12.15 Will Not Start

When I double click the Limewire icon, the logo-screen appears for a few seconds then disappears as if the program is starting. But nothing else happens. Limewire is not running in the toolbar and is not shown to be running in the task manager. I have tried opening it up from start menu, program files and desktop with the same results.

I have completely removed and updated/reinstalled java.
I have completely removed/uninstalled Limewire twice
I have disabled Mcafee Firewall
I made sure it was "allowed full access" in McAfee Firewall
I have removed Windows Security Update KB931261

Any help greatly appreciated!

OS: Windows XP
Dell XPS 600 all the bells & whistles...
ISP: SBC/AT&T DSL

I am having this exact same problem. The limewire box pops up but no text appears on the bottom of it like it should then it disappears after about 2 seconds. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing and the same thing happens.

I have limewire 4.12.15 with java 6 v2, win xp sp2[all updates available as of 7/23], athlon xp5400+ with 2 gigs of ram, 200+ GB's of hd space, linksys cable modem and router. Limewire works fine on the other PC hooked up to the router.

Well guys,

I too use LW Pro 4.12.15 without any problems whatsoever but, after deleting all my old Java installations, I installed Java 1.5.11 and that works just fine.

Default This is not a coincidence

I make my living installing Windows systems. I have had no problems before this week installing 4.12.15 on a whole host of systems all identically configured with regard to what is being discussed here.

That said, I am stymied as well, as this is EXACTLY what is not happening for a system I am nearly done with [typing this up on the affected machine] while surrounded by a multitude of systems, all of which are working just fine.

I can only assume it's something we are all dealing with that once we find the common denominator, the problem may make sense to a Limewire maintainer, etc. Here is the list of the machines I have NOT had a problem with:

Various PIII, P4, Pentium M ThinkPads, Athlon XP 1700 through Athlon XP 3000 systems.

The ONE system to date I have the problems described here exactly on:

Athlon AM2 6000+ with 2.0 GB DDR II-800 memory Tyan S2925A2NRF mobo, ThermalTake Big Typhoon VX cooler [2K rpm setting], ATI X1650 PRO 512MB video, Hitachi 500 GB Sata II, PLEXTOR 800A, Win XP Pro all patches, all else works fine

I work off of a script, so the installs are basically identical other than the various sys-dependent drivers. Java is 1.6U2. LimeWire 4.12.15 installed last.

Hmm,......I am wondering if you also have tried (after uninstalling LW and the Java installation) to remove any leftover folder (maybe the one in the hidden data application folder) and delete all entries in the registry, before reinstalling the Java (using the offline installer and restarting) and then the LW (also using the offline installer and restarting).

Maybe an installation in Save Mode (following the above features would do the trick.

From my experience, no machine will ever be the same then another, regardless of how it is assembled and what configuration it has....

Though that's just my 5-cent-worth....

Cheers

Default Limewire/Java problems

I too am perplexed. I have Limewire 4.12.6 on this computer and on an older laptop, both with XP Pro on them and it works fine. I just installed it on another computer I only recently enabled an on line connection for with a wireless router, and it will not start. It keeps coming up with "need to install java...". So I do, but then it says that this version of Java is not compatible with Limewire, and i have tried downloading older versions, but it still will not start. I do not remember how to clear my registry of all prior Java installations. Can anybody tell me please?

Thanks,
Monika
