---->i Have The Solution For Anyone With A 2wire Router Read 4th Post Down!!!!<---- i've spent several months of trying to get limewire to connect with no luck. :bangh: I have already posted my system info as requested before and i just recently tried a suggestion of another user which was to try a different p2p app. So i did and tried bit torrent and had no problems downloading files. So what's the deal with Limewire. I would really like to use limewire as bit torrent takes a long time to download anything since the files are all usually whole albums or several in one torrent. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Otherwise I'm going to have to assume that limewire is not going to work anymore. My guess is that AT&T is blocking ports. PS And yes i have configured the firewall on my router just in case someone was asking! |
my other thread i just found my other thread sorry. but heres the thread link which has the list of my settings in it. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...on-issues.html |
I have the same problem, i downloaded the latest version and it keeps saying starting connection but it isn't working. |
----->i Figured It Out! Try This If You Have A 2wire Router And Can't Connect<------ 1 Attachment(s) Well today i figured out my problem with my limewire connection issues. I discovered this when i went to trace an IP address of a friends website and i wasn't getting any results past my network. Basically what was happening was Visual Route was saying that packets were being lost past hop 2 and that there was insufficient cached data to determine what the next hop should be. I thought this to be odd since my visual route app has never had any problems. I thought that it might just be the site. so i tried others with the same result. So i went to visual route site and read the firewall configuration help page. I discovered that my 2WIRE router was blocking ICMP packets from passing into my network. But my router does not have the option of ICMP so what i did was check the all other protocols box and voila my visual route app worked fine. I then got a hunch to try limewire and low and behold it worked. Connected to 3 ultrapeers right away and had no problems finding files. So i don't think that limewire uses the ICMP protocol but it must use some other protocol that my router was blocking under the other protocols category. So go figure. I posted a screen image if anybody is unsure of where to go to set this up in the router. Does anyone know what protocol limewire uses. Maybe other users are having the same problem but have s/w firewalls and would need to know what protocol to unblock!! HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE :xeri_ok1ani: Attachment 3715 |
Can't connect I have LimeWire (the new free version) on my computer. I run Windows XP and have all the updates loaded for XP. I can run LimeWire on my other desktop computer and my son's laptop, but I can't run it on this laptop. I've checked the Norton Anti-Virus Internet Worm settings and have it set to "allow all" for LimeWire. My ISP is AT&T and I'm connected to a 2Wire Gateway with all my computers. Since the other computers connect to LimeWire, I don't have a problem with my 2Wire. Does anyone have any more ideas? Thanks, N Glenn |
About AT&T blocking ports I too have AT&T, used to be Bellsouth, until AT&T bought them out. I never noticed a problem until lately after I upgraded to the 4.13 PRO and then the 4.14. But even after I went back to the 4.12.15, it still seemed a little slow. I don't think AT&T is blocking ports because even though I have the brickwall, I still connect within seconds, have turbo connection almost immediately, always have connection to nothing but ultrapeers and can download/upload okay, if a little slow a lot of times. It's better thanit was with those upgrades. If everybody with AT&T starts noticing theis, then maybe there's is an issue with blocking/shaping. i don't put it past all isps to eventually try to do this. Quote:

Changing protocols like mentioned here on the 4th thread, helped me solve my connection problem on my wireless desktop. On my router, I had to set it to "block ICMP" pings which apparently changes protocols it accepts. Now LW works! |
I'm up and running I had checked my 2wire gateway and configured it like the previous post said but still no connection. I decided to reset my gateway to the defaults and now it works. I don't know why -- but it works. Thanks to everyone who replied. N Glenn |
