Unable to connect

Used to have no problem connecting but recently had a problem with connecting to the internet which BT took 6 weeks to resolve. Since then have not been able to connect to Limewire (although this may be coincidental as I didn't try straight away). Thought I would start again so have just downloaded 4.14.8.

Am running on XP with BT Voyager wireless router. Have ZoneAlarm (basic) and think from what I have read on this forum that the firewall may be the problem (firewall symbol showing on Limewire and only one bar of connection). Have tried to follow instructions to get ZoneAlarm to allow Limewire through but am now totally confused. I've found the bit where I can add a Host/site/IP address to ZonAlarm but haven't got a clue what to enter. Am I on the right track and what do I do now?

I am not sure about ZA other than it can be troublesome. But do you have UpNp enabled on your BT Voyager? Being a wireless device it will have a NAT firewall.

Have opened up BT Voyager utility and can find nothing that refers to UpNp or a firewall. Although BT recommended ZoneAlarm, would it be safe to turn this firewall off and restart the Windows firewall (I think Limewire suggested that this would configure automatically to accept Limewire)? Sorry but haven't a clue what a NAT firewall is....am not very technical but tried my best to work through the various recommendations in the Limewire site and then got stuck!

All wireless connection devices have NAT firewalls afaik. It might not support UPnP. Not all devices do. And I know I never found instructions on how to enable it for BT. Port forwarding might be the way to go; PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall BT is on left side of page.

Try changing over to XP firewall first. If still no good, then try the PF.

Don't quite know what happened (I haven't got around to changing the firewall over) - but all this dabbling has clearly done something as I am now connected! Thanks for your help!!
