A solution presents itself....

Hello to all hopefully my instructions will be helpful to anyone.
I too had the same problem as the many others on this forum for two days.

I have a Dell Desktop that is running Windows XP.

There were three things that I did.

I went to the control panel and clicked the add or remove programs button. I deleted LW, and the Java applications.

Once that was done I went to the web link being provided to you and downloaded the Java version JRE 5.0 update 11 version only.

Once that is done I went back and downloaded the LW version of your choice.

After LW downloaded I went to delete the Limewire Preferences folder. To do that go to your Start button, click my computer, click C: drive, click documents and settings, Click admisistrator or your created folder. At this point go up to the tool bar and click tools then folder options, then view. Were it says hidden files and folders click show hidden files and folders.

Once you do this you should see a folder called application data click that.
Inside this folder you should see many other folders. Right click on the folder that says limewire and delete it.

Once you have done these steps now go open Limewire and at this point with the preferences folder gone you should be prompted by questions and boxes. Once this is done limewire should start right up like it did for me. Cross my fingers that it will work for you or anyone else with the same issues. Good luck!!!

CONTINUED ADD ON:

In the mist of deleting all the listed applications I also completely deleted my McAfees Security Center since it was expired anyway and after all the above steps were completed I went back and reloaded McAfees and everything is working great!!

Just one thing - if people uninstall via Add/Remove programs, they can run into problems with LW not being properly removed. The correct way to uninstall is to use the uninstaller associated with LW via Start > All Programs > LimeWire & use the uninstall option there. Or My Computer > C drive > Program Files > LimeWire > uninstall.
