Error

Model Number For My Modem Is Dcm452

wondering why September 23rd, 2007 01:05 PM

I can't find any info on your modem/router at all, not even when I googled it...Are you sure that's the correct info ??
If you turn the box upside down it should tell you the make and model number....

In the meantime try these fixes...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Try deleting your preference folder/s...This will reset your configurations back to default and get rid of any corruption that may of happened...;)

Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

MILC8106 September 23rd, 2007 03:59 PM

Im Sorry Its A Thomson Cable Modem Model Dcm452

MILC8106 September 23rd, 2007 04:39 PM

I Uninstalled Java And Reinstalled The One U Told Me...i Also Tried To Delete The Pref. Folder And I Still Cannot Connect

wondering why September 24th, 2007 02:54 AM

I still can't find any info on it....

Try these...

Try changing the listen port in limewire to 64049 and select apply...
To find this option go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall...
You can also select the manual port forward option and enter 64049 and select apply...

Right-click the Limewire icon and go to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)

I'm also starting to suspect MEDIACOM as they have been known to shape p2p bandwidth...
[RANT] Mediacom blocking P2P traffic - Dont waste your money - dslreports.com

Have you tried connecting at different times of day/night ??

Have you tried using any other p2p apps ??

MILC8106 September 24th, 2007 11:24 AM

i tried the things that you told me and still no connection...i have tried to connect at all time of the day with no luck...from what my brother in law has told me there is a antivirus on this comp...windows live one care....he has also stated that there use to be lime wire on this pc...i haven't tried any other p2p...i dont know of any other than limewire that offers free downloads...so hopefully we can figure this out.

wondering why September 24th, 2007 12:59 PM

Did you configure Windows Live to allow limewire...

MILC8106 September 24th, 2007 01:05 PM

Yes

wondering why September 24th, 2007 01:10 PM

I'm running out of ideas...

You could try uninstalling Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

If that doesn't help could you goggle your modem and see what info you come up with regarding port forwarding...I couldn't find anything...;)

MILC8106 September 24th, 2007 01:13 PM

Also...at The Bottom Of My Modem It Says Its A Rca But In Control Panel Under Systems/device Manager It Says It Is A Lucent Win Modem...the Model Number Is Dcm425

wondering why September 24th, 2007 01:21 PM

That one you see is the 56K dial up modem that is built into your computer...

MILC8106 September 24th, 2007 01:32 PM

hmm then i guess im sol ...i called mediacom and they said they are not blocking p2p...i dunno what to do now

wondering why September 24th, 2007 01:39 PM

I will try and find some info on your modem a little later today...You see alot of modem/routers have Nat Firewalls built into them and need to be Port Forwarded to allow certain programs...

Does your ISP support the modem you are using, can they help you log into it and open up the TCP and UDP ports to allow limewire through ??

wondering why September 24th, 2007 01:42 PM

Also in the meantime try installing frostwire and phex and see how you get on with them...;)
Get Phex - PhexWiki

MILC8106 September 24th, 2007 01:43 PM

i would think they do because they sent the modem to me when i signed up for the internet...do u know how i get into the udp and the other one to change the port? without lookin up the modem

wondering why September 24th, 2007 01:49 PM

You have to log into the modem and without the login number, username and password you can't do that, hence me trying to find some sort of port forwarding advice on it...

There is a site that has all this type of info on it and unfortunatley your modem isn't listed...
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

MILC8106 September 24th, 2007 01:59 PM

I Tried To Get Frost Wire But Still No Connection Im Going To Try The Other One Now

MILC8106 September 24th, 2007 02:19 PM

Okay, I Tried Frost And Phex No Luck So Im Guessin If U Cant Find Any Info On My Modem Later I Will Have To Call My Isp And See If They Have Access To My Modem?

wondering why September 24th, 2007 02:22 PM

MILC8106 September 25th, 2007 11:16 PM

I Still Need Help! Please

wondering why September 26th, 2007 03:42 AM

I know :o and I have searched high and low for some sort of port forwarding info on your modem...
The general consensus is it is a modem only and not a modem/router, so it can't be port forwarded...
I even registered at the port forwarding site so I could find out some info and I'm still waiting for my password and until they send it, I can't post...
(I registered yesterday)

I did find a thread from a forum that suggested that it wasn't the modem that was blocking a torrent program they where using but a hidden firewall within the computer from an old work security program, when they uninstalled it everything was fine...

I recall you mentioning that your brother knew a bit about what was installed on your comp..Maybe ask him if he knows of any program that could be causing this...

I'm at a loss....try registering at PortForward.com Forum you may have better luck getting your password sent to you...;)

MILC8106 September 26th, 2007 10:16 AM

he said the only other antivirus on the comp was norton, he also said that he use to have limewire and it worked fine before

wondering why September 26th, 2007 01:15 PM

When he had it who was his ISP ??

Try this it may help...;)

Uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...

Use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name. If you can't delete them, reboot into safe mode & then try. If they still won't delete, try one of the tools here...
Incomplete Download File won't delete at all.

Then re-install it using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

MILC8106 September 26th, 2007 01:52 PM

I Am Deleting Lime Wire And I Did The Search And Deleted All The Files! I Also Found A Program Called Omnipass... Do You Know What That Is? Also, Is It Possible That Is Blocking Me?

MILC8106 September 26th, 2007 01:57 PM

MILC8106 September 26th, 2007 02:09 PM

wondering why September 26th, 2007 02:16 PM

birdy September 27th, 2007 11:09 PM

Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535, try port 64049 for starters. Apply > ok.

Also in LW file > disconnect. Wait 5 minutes, file > connect.

Looks like Mediacom also offer a firewall in their security suite.
Mediacom Cable Service | Internet, Digital Telephone and Television | Broadbandinfo.com
Is there any chance that you have this firewall but just weren't aware of it??

This page says that the modem has a firewall...
Thomson - Cable - DCM 425 - Digital Cable Modem
...but I can't find any info, even in the user guide, about that firewall. You could try contacting Thomson, they might be able to give you some more info.
Thomson – Images & Beyond – A World Leader in Digital Video Technologies - Contacts

When you originally deleted LW's preferences folder, did you make sure that LW was properly closed at the time? Did all of your settings within LW's tools > options change after deleting that folder?? Did you also look for a preferences folder in the old location of C:\Documents and Settings\your username\.lilmewire?

Going to merge this thread onto your original thread...otherwise it's just too hard for people to figure out what WW's suggested before & what fixes you've already tried!!

wondering why September 28th, 2007 01:36 AM

My pass word for the port forward forum came, it was sitting in my spam box :wasntme:...

STILL NEED HELP:confused:

wondering why September 30th, 2007 02:53 PM

Well no answer to my post about your modem...

So as one last ditch effort, because you have tried absolutley eveything we can think of, try installing PeerGuardian, it will help keep the fake hosts out...Remember to enable PG just before you start limewire up...;)
Phoenix Labs » PeerGuardian 2

If that doesn't work, you will need to go and buy a new modem/router and make sure it's an easy one to Port Forward...:p

MILC8106 September 30th, 2007 03:27 PM

K Ty

MILC8106 September 30th, 2007 03:30 PM

Which Version Do I Dl?

birdy September 30th, 2007 04:45 PM

Download the pg2-nt.exe (PeerGuardian 2 for Windows 2000/XP/2003 0.84MiB).

Also, you could try totally disabling the Live OneCare firewall & see if LW will connect when you're using the normal XP firewall. Just make sure that you do turn on the XP firewall (if it doesn't happen automatically) once you disable the OneCare firewall.

Don't forget, you'll have to allow LW access through the XP firewall;)
