Default Firewall Issues

I have just downloaded LimeWire Pro (4.14.10; Java 1.6.0_02) which will not work because of a firewall issue. I get one small blue bar and the message "LineWire is Connetting to the network", but it never gets there. I shows that there is a Firewall issue, but I have gone through all my known firewall and disconnected and/or put in exceptions (tried both ways) and still I can not connect.

My problem is very similar to the same questions being asked by "MILC8106". I read the solutions for him and tried them all with no change. The suggestion of trying to bring up http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ did not work, message: "could not display wedpage".

System: Widows XP, 4cpu 3.20 GHz, 1GB Ram
Plenty of Harddrive space.
DSL connection through Windstream: Model: Speedstream 5200 and connected to Linksys wireless router: WRT150N
Firewall Protection is from: AVG 7.5

I had a much older LW on the computer that did work prior to this download.

Your help would be appreciated.

Jmfmike

jmfmike,

Double check that LW's being allowed through the AVG firewall & that the XP firewall is turned off. Some people have had trouble with a Windstream firewall...I think you'd have had probs with it before now if it was an issue with LW but just in case, have a look at post #7 below.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html
In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. change LW's listening port to 64049 (or something in the range of 49152 - 65535) > Apply > ok.

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Some people have had connection problems when using that latest Java update. Try this version instead, download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before you install this one.

There's a firewall within your router. Try port forwarding, the instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT150N
Don't forget to set up a static IP address first, or port forwarding won't work. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router should all be the same number.
