Yep, another connection problem. Ok, here is my information and then I will let you know what I have done up to this point. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Win XP Home Ed 2. What firewalls you have? Windows 3. How much ram? 512 MB 4. Hard Disk space available? 57 GB 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Actiontec R1524SU 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.14.10 & Java 1.5.0_05 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Qwest 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It tries to load the page, but them comes up "The Page Cannot Be Displayed". 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Home network between desktop and laptop. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I have used LW before, but it's been a few years...I would say I'm fairly new with it. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, I do. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I tried the port forwarding, so that is how it is set up now. 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :) Non at the moment, except for Win. 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA My problem is when I open the program or disconnect and reconnect, it is at a constant "currently connecting to the network" and has the single bar lit green. Now that that is out of the way...here is what I've done. I've read through many posts on the same issue and have tried what was suggested. I've deleted the LW folder and re-opened the program. I've uninstalled LW and re-installed LW through the offline download. I've uninstalled Java and re-installed it through the offline download. I've made sure LW was an exeption on Windows' firewall. I have checked to see if my gateway (or modem, I guess) has UPnP support and I couldn't find it, so I manually did a port forward. I think that is all I have done...it's been a long five hours. When I have used the program before, I really like it, so I'm willing to work on fixing this problem. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you so much for your time! Gina |
Hi gina, Not sure if you have tried this, but it's worth a try. Hope this helps. :D Port Forwarding for the Actiontec R1524SU Also Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version.... Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s... Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should. |
Still...nothing. Ok, I tried all three suggestions...again. Still...nothing is working. Thank you for your help though, I really appreciate it. :Smilywais: If there are any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks again! Gina |
Unfortunatley it could be your ISP, the first given sign is that the test page didn't work... Bad ISPs - AzureusWiki |
WOW, Thats very interesting. I have Qwest VDSL and they have never ever Limited me on anything. Actually I would of Highly recommended them over Cox. Must just be in certain parts of the country. No restrictions out here in the Wild Wild West. :celebration: |
I think that might be it! Thanks to both of you for your help. I did look on this list (Bad ISPs - AzureusWiki) and Qwest is on there for limited bandwidth, so I think that is the problem. We will be changing providers on Wednesday (previously scheduled) and this particular company has no limits. Thanks, Wondering Why, for that link. :aweof: I will just be patientand see what will happen after Wednesday.:xeri_ok1ani: Thanks again! I will post and let you now if that was the problem. |
Ok, that was the problem! We had our installation today and the bandwidth was the problem. I am able to connect to Limewire. Thanks again for your help!!! |
