I've been using Limewire for a while but for the past 3 months, it wouldn’t download or connect for me. It says it is connected (according to the option on from File). I would File>disconnect, wait a minute, and then File>connect but the status of the connection located at the bottom left hand corner would never surpass ONE bar. When I enter a Search for music, this message pops up: “Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network.” When I press OK, the search will appear but no results are evident and a yellow bar above the search results will read: “Only search results with a [here a picture of a LOCK symbol] are official Limewire communications.” I’ve tried clicking on any help forums from Limewire, Gnutella, etc. I’ve exited Limewire, tried starting it over; I’ve disabled it, tried redownloading it, updating, checking Java, updating Java, etc. It used to work perfectly fine and then POOF- it just stopped. I didn’t have the time to address the problem before but since I have, there has been no progress. I would appreciate any suggestions. -ducky_gone_mad

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location). Fixes for LimeWire This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. In case you're using Vista: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista Have you tried installing this older Java version? Use the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before you install this one. Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 If none of that helps, please give us your details. System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

Anyhow, I took initiative and completed your suggestions. Actually, deleting the Limewire preferences folder didn’t help. It just rebooted my Limewire to its unoriginal form. L Then, I uninstalled Java and tried the J2SE version. However, a window popped up when I tried reopening Limewire- it won’t run on a lower version of Java so I had to update to the latest one. Still, Limewire didn’t work. Okay, I think I’M the bird brain here because I noticed an icon at the bottom of Limewire (miscellaneously messing around trying to change settings back to how I had them) and I saw that there WAS a firewall blocking Limewire. Well, sob. I could have swore I checked that and found nothing. So, I went to my Anti-Virus program (I know my PC lingo is all wrong) and changed its settings to allow Limewire. I exited Limewire, reopened it and WALA, I’m in the clear. What a spoof. Thank you for all suggestions and help, Birdy. I am grateful. I am off to catch up on music. -Ducky ![]() PS- sometimes it might be the simplest things, Baker. Best of luck- and breathe.
