Don't have multiple firewalls running...they'll clash with each other. Choose 1, make sure that it's configured to allow LW & turn the other 2 off;)

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

If that doesn't help, try this older version of Java. Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before you install this one.

Have you always seen the firewall icon, when LW was connecting properly? What's the model of your Speedstream?

EternalSessions6 October 22nd, 2007 01:21 PM

yes, i've always saw the firewall before

and the model # on my speedstream is, 4100

Also, I have no preferences folder, i cannot find it because i have no application data folder either.

The Application Data folder's hidden by default, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders to be able to see it. Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > view > check the radio button to show hidden files & folders > apply > ok.

Now it should show up;) Don't forget to look for a prefs folder in the old location (C:\Documents and Settings\your username\.limewire), if you've used much older versions of LW before.

Try port forwarding for your speedstream, the instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Siemens 4100
Don't forget to set up a static IP address first, otherwise port forwarding won't work. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the Speedstream should all be the same number.

I think I have a similar problem to this guy and figured I should not start a new thread. O and this is my first post :)
1. OS version? windows xp
2. What firewalls you have? I'm not sure. The only one I see is off. Its called Windows Firewall and it is set on off. I dont think I have a firewall problem because sometimes my limewire works.
3. How much ram? 368mb on eMachines Computer
4. Hard Disk space available? 123 GB
5. Connection type? DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Router: Belkin Wireless G Router- 2.4ghz-802.11g (<I think this is the problem)
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.14.10 Java 1.5.0 (I think this is right. I didnt go into LW because it will kick me off the internet and thats my whole problem.)
9. Who is your ISP? Bellsouth
10. Do this simple test for us. Test works
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. We used to have an iBook around the house so that we could use either one. But now we just have the router connected to our computer and that is how the internet works. It doesn't really make sense to me but it works most of the time, unless I open Limewire.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I've used limewire for a long time.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ no
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I don't know anything about our router situation.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/../ima...lies/smile.gif Some McAfee. However the Spamkiller is disabled, and the other system running is PC Spyware Doctor.
16. What country are you living in? US

Now for my problem. If I open limewire, by just double clicking on the desktop icon, all my settings and songs are there, but I cannot search. If I type in a search, it says Limewire is currently connecting to the network.
So its been doing this for a couple months now, and I don't even remember the last time I got it all to work. So I uninstalled LW a few weeks ago, and reinstalled it. When I opened it after reinstallation, it worked for that one time, ( and for some reason all my files are still intact, which is fine with me) but ever since then, I cannot connect to the network. And its not just not connecting , it is messing up the whole internet connection because any searching or email or whatever I'm doing on Firefox, suddenly says that the page won't load. So I think I should uninstall it all, including the router and wacky internet connection we have, and then try it again. any help?

Try this

I had this same problem and fixed it by:-

[1] Uninstall the old version of LW before installing the new -- delete the old LW folders from the Programs directory before installing the new version
[2] Ensure that you have java script J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 (Jre ver 5) if not download from here:-

Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

* Uninstall Limewire by using LW uninstall program not the add/remove control panel
start -> all Programs -> Limewire -> Uninstall

Of course if you haven't got an older version of Limewire loaded just leave para [1] out and do para [2]

This should fix your problem -- please let us know -- Thanx
