all of a sudden will not connect (a fix to try)

my limewire has been acting fine for the past six months until very recently i only got one bar. i tried restarting the computer. i downloaded the newer version of limewire. i tried re opening it several times (and yes i have waited, for up to many minutes). i checked my firewalls and they are all set. i have hit the 'connect' button that is under file. and i have deleted it and re installed it. i dont know what else to do

Try this first: Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.
In case you're using Vista: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

Some people have had connection problems with some Java versions. You can either try updating to the latest version here (I have this one & LW's working fine): Java SE Downloads
or try this older version, which has worked well for lots of people: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Whichever Java version you use, download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

If that doesn't help, please give us your details.

Did you show hidden files & folders? Control panel > folder options > view > check the radio button to show hidden files & folders > apply > ok.
Now the Application Data folder should be visible, look for the LimeWire folder within App Data. That LimeWire folder is the one you need to delete.

Did you remove the updated Java?

Raffles November 10th, 2007 09:03 PM

alright, i got the hidden folders to show but im not finding an application data folder. i did a search for it but no luck. no, i never removed my java its still on here.

sorry about this by the way, i feel like such a nuisance

You're fine...this is a PITA for you:)

Ok, here's what you have to do: Make sure LW is closed. Go to My computer > double click C drive > double click Documents and Settings > double click your username. Now you should see an Application Data folder...double click that.

Once you're inside that App Data folder, you should see a folder named LimeWire

That LimeWire folder should be there;) Delete the sucker. Then restart LW & see if it connects.

alright i got it. i deleted it but i still only have one bar. i deleted it while LW was closed, then i re-opened LW and had to click 'Next' a bunch of times until it said 'finish' ect. ect.

Ok that's good, it means that you deleted the folder properly.

This is a link to download a gnutella.net file. Download this & save the file to your computer.
zSHARE - gnutella.net

Make sure LW's closed.

Go back to that LimeWire folder. You deleted it & now there'll be a new one in it's place. Double click on the LimeWire folder to open it. Inside, you'll see a heap of files like these
Attachment 3840

See the file called gnutella.net (or gnutella)...delete that one. Leave the LimeWire folder open.

Now copy & paste the gnutella.net file that you downloaded into that folder. Once it's in there, close all those folders that you have open. Restart LW.
