Starting Connection Not Working, 4 Hours now

I really need some help with connecting to Lime Wire. I use to have the free Limewire and decided to purchase the Pro and now I am having issues. What is the problem? My information is below. Please help as soon as possible.

1. OS version? Windows XP Home Edition
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall. I disabled it, and the search won't work.
3. How much ram? 512MB Ram
4. Hard Disk space available? 31GB
5. Connection type? DSL Wireless
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Belkin Router connected to my mom desktop computer. I have a laptop and get wireless from that.
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 14.10
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? ATT
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Sharing connection with my moms desktop.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I use to have Free Limewire, never had an issue. I purchased Lime Wire Pro and have not been able to connect since I purchased it.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Not sure
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Windows Firewall. Disabled, Enabled, made LimeWire exception from Firewall. still no connection

16. What country are you living in? USA

I am also using Java 1.5.04 and Lime Wire 4.14.10 Pro

when people suddenly can't connect after upgrading to Pro, deleting the preferences folder is often the fix.

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Your Java version's quite old. You can either update to the latest version here (I have this one & LW's working fine): Java SE Downloads
or try this older version, which has worked well for lots of people: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Whichever Java version you use, download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

Rather than running without a firewall, make sure that the XP firewall's allowing LW.

Hi! Where do I find the JRE Offline Installer?

birdy November 10th, 2007 11:17 PM

When you click on the blue Java link, then click on 'Download JRE'...you'll be sent to the download page. There, you'll see that there are 2 Windows versions of JRE available for download. The top one is the offline installation, the bottom one is the online installation.

Put a tick next to the offline installation & download that installer. Don't forget to accept the license agreement first;)

It Works

I followed the instructions above with removing the limewire folder, copying the gnutella and pasting and it worked. Im connected. Thank you so much.

I never updated the Java. Do I still need to do this or am I fine now?

It wouldn't hurt to update it, just because your version's a bit old & sometimes people see connection problems with an old Java. Just to be on the safe side, use the older (but newer than your current one)1.5.0_11 version...that's been the one that's worked for most people. A few people have had some probs with the latest updates, but not with that older one;)
