Mother of all connection problems

I've been a Limewire user for 3 years, using an old Pro. Have just purchased another Limewire Pro for a second computer. Cannot connect no matter what I do. The old Pro runs with no problem but the new version is a real mission. Using Norton - have created rule and even tried turning off the Firewall - nada! Limewire also seems to still detect a firewall. No other firewall running. Have read as many posts as I can. Any advice would be great. Thanks Keith

Try the advice in the thread below. Start off by deleting LW's preferences folder & updat1ng/changing your Java version.
all of a sudden will not connect (a fix to try)

In case you have Vista, things are a bit different to XP when finding the preferences folder & other files/folders within Application Data. This thread should help with that: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

If nothing there helps, please give us your details.

My problem is (was) that I can't KEEP a connection. I'd get 3-5 connections after a minute or two, but then they'd disappear and the whole process would repeat.

I say "was" because I deleted the Limewire directory, and now I can't get any connections at all now.

1. OS version? Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Tried with and without ZA running
3. How much ram? 1.5G
4. Hard Disk space available? 250G+
5. Connection type? Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys BEFSR41
7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.14.10 Pro, updated Java in the past few months (I forget version #)
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Time Warner
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says Your test works!!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user: New prob w/ exp user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? For a while, and then it goes away.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Set forwarding, UPnP is enabled.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? None
16. What country are you living in? USA

As a last resort, I uninstalled and reinstalled LW. That didn't fix anything.

Hi Birdy. Thanks for focusing my problems solving. Getting rid of the preferences folder and reinstalling Java worked for me. Thanks a million for the support. Regards Keith (from South Africa)
