Firewalls..both off, nothing happens

I recently had to reinstall Limewire after a system recovery. The indicator at the bottom of the Limewire screen tells me that I've still got a firewall up somewhere, even though I've turned off both my Norton and Windows firewalls (or alternately reconfigured them to allow for Limewire). If I've got another firewall lurkin' around somewhere in my computer, I can't find it. How do I solve this problem? Any suggestions?

Please give us your details.
System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

Is your LW connected at all? How many green/blue connection bars do you see?

Leave the windows firewall off & configure Norton's firewall to allow LW.

There might be a firewall within your modem/router;)

If LW isn't connected at all, try the advice here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-fix-try.html
Start off by deleting LW's preferences folder & changing Java versions.

Hey im trying to connect to limewire and the globe with the wall is there, even though I opened the port and stuff…you probably know the story by now. Heres the info:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98): Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have?: Windows Firewall
3. How much ram?: 1 GB
4. Hard Disk space available?: 151 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.): Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?: No idea
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?: House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.: Limewire 4.14.10 Java 1.6.0_03
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?: Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?: Your test worked!!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.: Yes private network
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.: I had it on my old computer and it worked fine, then I switched to this one (the old computer used to be on the network Im currently-idk if that makes a difference) and I cant connect.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image: yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?:I tried both and neither worked
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall : Just windows firewall
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland).: USA
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Start off by deleting LW's preferences folder & changing Java versions.

You'll know if you've deleted the preferences folder properly...when you start LW, you'll go through the setup wizard again.

If nothing there helps, please try to find out the brand & model of your modem/router. if you're connecting wirelessly, the device might be in another room.

A few more bits if info:

-when I try to do a search on LW, I get this message: "Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network."

Thanks again. take it easy.

blutojon88,

Don't run 2 software firewalls together, they'll interfere with each other! Turn off the Windows firewall & configure the Norton to allow LW. You could also try removing all the LW rules from Norton & then adding them again.

Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

You could try this older version of Java, just to see whether that makes any difference: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
If it turns out that Java's not an issue, it's easy enough to re-download the latest version;)
Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

What's the model of your D-Link?

success

Hi, Birdy. I just tried deleting the file in the Application Data, and it looks like that did the trick. Thanks. I'll let you know if anything else changes.
