How to remove brick & turn bars green Try this method. 1. Open Limewire program (i.e. display it). 2. Click "Start". Click "Control Panel". 3. Switch to "Classic View." 4. Click "Windows Firewall" icon. 5. Click "Exceptions." 6. Uncheck "Limewire" i.e. remove the "tick" symbol from the box at left of the Limewire entry. 7. Click "Add program". 8. Select "Limewire" program & click it. 9. This message will be displayed: "Limewire is already in the list of exceptions." Click "OK." 10. Check "Limewire" (add a "tick' back to the blank box at left. 11. Click "OK." 12. Check whether the bars have turned green & whether the brick has disappeared. This method worked for me. Please post a reply if it does work for you.Thanks. |
Please insert: Step - 9a. Click "Cancel". If this method doesn't work, please uninstall Limewire program (i.e. click "Start" & search for all Limewire files & remove them all). Then download the Limewire program again. Good luck! |
Hello ppl. I have the same problem. I have 5 red bars, the brick wall and the 'you are currently connecting to the network'. I have tried everything, updating java, deleting the limewire hidden files. Everything that it says in the 'fix limewire page'. And iv tried wot philip251912 suggested. Im at a complete loss. Suggestions would b greatly appreciated |
When you deleted the preferences folder, did you also look for a folder in the old location (folder named .limewire)? When you started LW, did it run through the setup wizard again? Have you also tried replacing the gnutella.net file, which is found within the hidden LimeWire folder? If not, there's more info here. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-fix-try.html http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post296950 |
No Connection I HAVE TRIED TO GET A CONNECTIONS BY OPEB=NIGN PORTS. STILLNOTHING HELP PLEASE The brick is on the world -1 of 5 red bars are green (when I put my cursor over it it says, "You are currently connecting to the network.") -I don't know if I have a firewall, how do I check? -I don't know my ISP, how do I check? -I have Java\jre1.5.0_02 -Windows Firewall is off -Limewire is an "exception" -MICROSFOT VISTA :bangh::bangh::bangh: |
mine is the same nothing seems to work |
Hi.. i have the same problem.. Have you worked it out yet???? |
Add this step: 13. If the bars are still red & the brick is still there, turn off & restart your computer, open the Limewire program & see whether the problem has been fixed or not. If not, go through Steps 1 - 13 again. |
Hi. Many folks are having the same problem. It appears they hosed something up in the latest version. I had the same problems. I even went so far as to completely disable my firewall and change all my port setting in LW. No help. This version is just plain broken. The good news is Shareaza still works, using the exact same ports. The problem is not the firewall or port setting, it's Limewire itself. Download Shareaza and use it until the problem is fixed. |
2nd method If my earlier suggestion is unable to resolve the no-connection problem, please try out the following steps: (1)Open Limewire program. (2)Click "Tools" (on the Limewire program) (3)Click "Options" (4)Click "Advanced" (5)Click "Firewall configuration" (6)Click "Manual Port Forward" (i.e. dot it). (7)Click "Use UPnP (Recommended)" (i.e. dot it) (8)Click "Apply" (9)This message will be displayed:"One or more options will take effect the next time Limewire is restored." (10)Click "OK" (11)Click "File Association" (12)Uncheck "torrents" files (i.e. remove the "tick") (13)Uncheck "magnet:" links (14)Recheck "torrents" files (i.e. put back the "tick") (15)Recheck "magnet:" links (16)Click "Ask me what to do when an association is missing (i.e. put a dot within the circle) (17)Click "Always take the selected associations." (i.e. put a dot within the circle) (18)Click "Apply" (19)This message will be displayed: "One or more options will take effect the next time Limewire is restored." (17)Click "OK" (18)Click "Performance" (19)Check "Disable Ultrapeer capabilities" (insert a "tick" there) (20)Uncheck "Disable Ultapeer capabilties" (remove the "tick") (21)Click "Apply" (22)This message will be displayed:" One or more options will take effect the nex time Limewire is restored." (23)Click "OK" (24)If the brick doesn't disappear by now, turn off & restart your computer. (25)Open Limewire program & wait a minute or two for the brick to disappear. (Sometimes Limewire will display some instructions for you to adjust the Limewire program. Just click "Next" till "Finish") (26)If the brick doesn't disappear, CLICK "Options" >""Advanced" > "Firewall configuration" & copy down the "Listen on Port" number (this number often changes). (27)Next, CLICK "Start" (Windows) > "Control Panel" >"Windows Firewall"(Classic view) > "Exceptions" > "Add Port" (28)Type Name as "C:\ProgramFiles\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe" (29)Type in Port Number & select "TCP" (put a dot within the circle). Click "OK". (30)Click "Add Port" (31)Type Name as:"C:\ProgramFiles\ LimeWire\LimeWire.exe" (32)Type in Port Number & select "UDP". Click "OK" (33) Click "OK" to close "Windows Firewall" (34)If the brick doesn't disappear, then go through Steps (1) to (24) again. Very often my Limewire Program isn't able to connect to the Gnutella network. I'm using the above method as well as the other method in my first post to sort out the problem & most of the time the brick wall will disappear & the bars will turn green. If you're unable to connect to the network after you tried the 2 methods that I've suggested, perhaps one or more files in the Limewire program you had downloaded are corrupted. Search & remove all Limewire files & download the program again. If the problem still persists, perhaps the faulty Limewire program that you had downloaded earlier is still hidden somewhere within your computer or has replaced your newer Limewire download. I don't know the steps to search for the faulty Limewire program (i.e. in case it's still hidden within a hidden file) & remove it and perhaps a reader who knows how to do it will share his or her expertise. If any reader knows of another method to resolve the problem, please post your solution. Thanks! |
No Connection I have tried steps 1-33. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. It still states that I have no connection. There is still the brick and the one red bar. What now? |
Yeah i deleted the preference folder and i think i deleted the folder in the old location. I just deleted the folder with Limewire on it. And wen i reopened it, it went through the install wizard again. This is wrecking my head!! |

If it's still stuck, try replacing the gnutella.net file (see the threads in post #4, the bottom thread has very basic instructions point 7 onwards). That's worked for quite a few people. If that doesn't help, give us your details. System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!(click on link) |
To Tavapoo: I suspect that your very first Limewire download, which is probably corrupted, is still hidden in one of your file folders & has automatically taken over each of your newer Limewire downloads. In other words, your latest download has been cancelled out (replaced) by your very first download. Try to search for all hidden Limewire files in all locations & remove them before downloading a new one. Also, restart your computer a few times if you continue to see the brick wall. And close all webpages (i.e. don't surf the Net while the Limewire program is opened) & check whether your hard disk (C:\) has sufficient free space. Lack of free space can affect the performance of the Limewire program. On one occasion the brick wall disappeared when I transferred some of my files from C:\ to D:\ . Also scan & delete any virus from your computer. Anyone who can help out Tavapoo, please post your suggestion or solution. Thanks! |
1. OS version? Windows XP SP2 Home edition 2. What firewalls you have? Yes Windows Firewall, but Limewire is an exception 3. How much ram? 512 MB 4. Hard Disk space available? 56.09 GB 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Dont know 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.14.10 Java 1.6.0_03 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Irish Broadband 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your Test Worked 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Only Limewire 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New Problem 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image Yes 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Dont know 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...lies/smile.gif AVG Antivirus Free Edition 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Ireland |
Did you replace the gnutella.net file (within LW's preferences folder named LimeWire)? Do you use a modem or router? Look for a box with lights on it which connects to your computer & lets you connect to the net. If you're using a wireless connection, the modem/router might be in another room. In LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 > apply > ok. You can also try other ports in the range of 49152 - 65535. If you can find your model in the list here, try port forwarding. PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall Click on your modem/router model & then choose LimeWire from the list of programs. Then you'll see step-by-step instructions for port forwarding. If setting up a static IP is part of the instructions, don't miss that step. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router setup should all be the same number;) |
Thanks Birdy, I replaced the gnutella file. Im now connected. Go Raibh Mile Maith Agat!! |

Yo, Dude all you gotta do is click "Why?" when LimeWire asks you to upgrade to Pro and then close the new window telling you why to go to Pro. I had the same problem as soon as I done this outta curiosity it loaded up to a very strong connection. :tease::Smilywais::woohoo: |
Final solution Show hidden files and folders browse to C:\Documents and Settings\computername\Application Data delete limewire folder after uninstalling it |
I made a video tutorial on this a while back on YouTube here: YouTube - Limewire won't connect - Vista and XP Fix and the step-by-step detailed tutorial is here: How To Get Limewire To Connect Vista and XP Users*|*BlueFAQs.com This has worked for hundreds of people according to text comments and has a 5 star rating after 10,000 views. There is a hidden limewire folder that must be deleted to allow the connection to take place. It's typically not going to be a firewall issue. Hope this helps you guys. |

Deleting LW's preferences folder (named LimeWire in more recent versions, named .limewire in versions prior to 4.9.34) is a fix that's been posted here for years:) It's good to know that heaps of people are solving their connection problems by deleting that folder;) |
