To aid helpers in solving download/upload problems, LimeWire and Frostwire users must specify whether they are downloading a torrent file or a file from the Gnutella network. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.  Still can't open Limewire 4.14 I have reviewed most of the posts regarding the failure of Limewire - I have uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted the .limewire folder, ran LW again, pasted the new gnutella.net file, and rebooted. I have allowed LW to access internet - I use ZoneAlarm, Avast, and Super Anti-Spyware - all of which I have disabled just to see if LW would start. I have also removed and re-installed Java v.6 and am thinking to remove it and go back to v.5 as some clues alude to. I changed LW preferences to Win 2000. The same things occurs no matter what I do - The LW box shows it's loading, then nothing. No window, no icon in the sys tray, and no error message. Is there anyway I can go back to the old version of LW? Or perhaps there is a fix I haven't tried yet? I'm on Compac nx6325, running Win XP, using Firefox. I ran the "test" and that was working properly, and I previously ran LW v.10 I think, just fine.  Help?  |

 Please help!!! I have again tried to install and run Limewire, this time v.4.18.1 I have the latest Java, there are no blocks in my zone alarm or AVG - in fact I have even tried to load the program while those were shut down. Still I'm having the same problem I had in Nov 07 - the interface loads, but the application does not open. There are no posts that I have yet found that apply to this situation. I'm using the same computer I described in my previous post. I have 6GB of free space, so it doesn't seem to make sense that it is memory related. There are no error messages either. Please advise - someone!?? A friend said it's been shutdown, but even if that is true, I would be able to open the application, and that is what iIm not able to do.  ANYONE? Gnutella folks? Quote:

| Did you install Java using the online or Offline installer? Often the problem is with online installations. Try these things: 1. (a) Remove all Java versions & install the OFFLINE version after downlding the installer to your computer first. Download Java software from Sun Microsystems __ filesize: 15.18 MB 2nd on list. Reboot after installing Java. (b) Delete your LW preferences folder. 2. Download & install this Offline version of LW (it will uninstall the previous version at beginning of installation)  http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe3. If still problems, check steps 3, 5 & 6 here Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link) eg: Compatibility to NT or Windows 2000, delete the LW prefs folder. This is important for the new version if didn't delete it above. |

| Also check other security utilities you have be they anti spyware or ad, etc. Depending on particular one, they can sometimes block an internet program from working, else even remove part of the program so it doesn't work because they consider it as spyware when it isn't (poor programming or attitude by them.) Oh & run Crap Cleaner so it cleans your registry. Sometimes old fragments of programs linger, not being removed properly & can muck up the running of the newer version. So a cleaning of the registry will remove such unneeded bits.  |

| Well, I have followed all the directions as far as I can tell. I have even gone so far as to download the JRE 5.0 Upd 11 for Java instead of using the v6, uninstalled all my spyware, and even closed AVG and Zone Alarm (even thought they were set to allow). I still have the same problem - it gives me the opening then just doesn't. No icon in tray, no application. I don't know what the problem could be - I had gone in and deleted all limewire from the registry, downloaded java and limewire offline, from links, - tried to open, failed, deleted the preferences folder, tried again - went through the brief setup, then still no application. Maybe I just need to do it all again, wiping clean all Limewire and java, use the Java 5.0 offline, limewire offline, and keep all security stuff off the whole time?? That's crazy, but I don't know what else I could do. My computer is haunted! Thanks for your help - Lord, Proxy, etc... I'm at wits end - especially knowing people can use it, including a friend who's just started! |

| I was just looking through my Limewire folder and realized that Java is kicking back error reports into the folder. So if anyone understands Java, please let me know and I'll get the reports to you. I would love to get this working. -John |
