Default why does it go to a website

when i click on a file after i have searched for a file i am wanting, it goes to a website and wants me to download a play mp3.exe ????

I have noticed that, doesnt matter what you type into search there are over 100 files which all do the same, yet there is sometimes over 50 people downloading it.

just for a test i typed in search "vergnügungszug" (which is a name of a song) and you get over 100 fake files.

it never used to do this on limewire!!!

is it a fault in the program

or is it time to move onto another downloading program???

Don't ever download that exe file, chances are it's malware.

When you find files that you think are suspicious, right click > mark as junk. You can also try using this hostiles list, it might decrease the number of crap files that show up in your searches.

So why doesn't a mod remove all the members that has these fake files/virus or warn them that their files have viruses? It would not take long to find the members that have these file and have them ban from Limewire for a week or so, then they may get the hint to clean up their act and not spread viruses.

And why hasn't anyone else complained about this issue?

LW is peer-to-peer. You don't connect to a central server! You connect to other users of the Gnutella network (like you & me). There's absolutely no way that LW can control what's being shared on the network.

Many organisations (eg the RIAA) would love to see p2p die. So, what better way to sabotage p2p than to flood the network with fake & infected files???
There's more info about this here.
Fake files in search results

Read through old threads, of course people complain about this.

Ok fair enough.
So what if it is a peer to peer. I need to be resisted to go onto LW and so does every other member.
So I can not see the reason why a Mod can not find the million of flooders with these viruses !!!
If silly ol me can find a few thousand within a few seconds then I see no reason why a Mod could not ban the member of advise that member what could happen if they continue spreadiing.

Should be more action and less talking. Everyone knows that it can be stoped, but will it?

Kowan

You may not understand this but it is not the Mods job to protect you or anybody else from the dangers on the gnutella network, it is up to you to either protect yourself or not.

There are protective apps, which you can use, and the newer browsers (Opera, Firefox, etc) can be configured to resist the commands from these fake files. Plus, Birdy (one of the forum's senior members) has given you some good advice.

Simply put, if you want to be wrapped up in "cotton wool" well this is not the place for you.
