Cennection problems

I have been using LW for about 3 years, and have never experienced any problems. I can connect to LW Pro with turbo charged signal, but on my connections tab, all are showing as outgoing only. I can perform searches, and receive plenty of results, but can not download anything. I have included all my information that I knew answers to. Thanks in advance for your attention, time and patience.

1. OS version? Windows XP

2. What firewalls you have? Norton & Windows, but Windows is off.

3. How much ram? 2GB of RAM, 1.15 avail

4. Hard Disk space available? 55GB of HD avail

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 2Wire 1701HG Gateway

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.14.8, Java 1.6.0_03

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? AT&T

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? got msg 'Your Test Worked'

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. wireless network with laptop, but computer in question has wired connection

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. been using for about 3 yrs, 1st time with major problem I could not solve

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? brick wall has always been there, but did not present a problem before

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? not sure about this one

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. using Norton Internet Security, tried changing port settings in LW, but could not find where to change in Norton. Seems like there used to be a way to set a range or something, not sure, haven't had to deal with that issue in a while.

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland).

[COLOR=#ff0000****** in the US[/color]Please advise if any additional information is needed. Thanks again.

You'll only see incoming connections if you're connected as an ultrapeer. If you're connected as a leaf, all you'll see are outgoing connections...this is normal & nothing to worry about:)

What happens when you try to download? If files aren't moving into the download pane, try the advice here.
License (click)

Or, are files sitting connecting for ages & then getting stuck needing sources? If that's the case, check out this post about fake files.

If absolutely every file that you try to download gets stuck needing sources (as a test, try downloading an old song with a single modem source), delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

You could try port forwarding for your router, that should get rid of the firewall icon. The instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the 2wire 1701HG
LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router setup should all be the same number;)

Thanks for your help Birdy. Every file that I try to download shows connecting then goes to needing sources. Before I posted this message, I tried the "fixes for LW" by deleting the preference folder. I went thru the steps, and still no change. I just finished the port forward according to the posted instructions, changed to manual in LW using the same port as listening port, and used the same number for the router setup. It is still showing a brick wall and still no change. I am at a complete loss here. Any more suggestions? I am willing to try anything right about now. Thanks again.

Restart your computer, see if that makes any difference.

After you deleted the preferences folder, did you go through the setup wizard again when LW was started?
Deleting the prefs folder normally does the trick when all files get stuck connecting.

Do you have any other Java versions installed on your computer? Remove everything except the 1.6.0_03 that you're using now.

Try removing all of LW's rules within Norton & then reconfigure the firewall to allow LW.

Do you have the 4.14.8 installer saved? If you do, try uninstalling LW (for XP that's start > all programs > limewire > uninstall, I'm not sure of the Vista equivalent:o). Then use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name & delete those. Then reinstall LW.
If you don't have the installer saved, you'll lose that version if you reinstall LW from your Pro download page.
