Need help!!!!!!!! Limewire quit working

Limewire stopped connecting about a week ago with an older version. I downloaded the newer version but still have the problem. I have briefly shut off every firewall I know of and it still doesn't work. I tried the port changes in Norton but it didn't give me a problem before so I'm not sure if the changes were even necessary. I've got one bar and nothing will download. I have the new Gnutella file (from here) but no cigar. Is it my ISP (AT&T DSL)? What do I need to do? Thanks very much!

Did you try deleting your preference folder....

If you still have problems after that, could you supply these details please...

Also check for the LimeWire folder and delete that...;)

Did not find "Limewire" just "limewire". Deleted that already

Answers to your detail ?'s are

1. Windows XP
2. Norton (used with Limewire for over a year) and Windows (turned off)
3. 6.5 gig
4. at least 150k
5. DSL (AT&T)
6. Westell DSL
7. Home
8. 4.14.10 but my previous version had quit too and Java 1-5.0-11
9. Bellsouth (AT&T)
10. checked good
11. Norton's firewall settings seem to keep defaulting back to "connections to and from other computers" no matter how I set it up. However, before when Limewire was working, I didn't have to make to any changes to Norton. It worked fine. Limewire doesn't even work with Norton turned off.
12. New problem. No previous problems with Limewire in over a year of use
13. Yes
14. N/A
15. Spybot and Ad-aware SE Personal
16. US

You need to find the LimeWire folder....

4. Go back to Start > click on My Computer > double click on C drive > double click on Documents and Settings > double click on the folder with your username > double click on Application Data. Once you're in the Application Data, look for a folder named LimeWire (there's no dot in front of this one & the letters aren't all lower case). Delete that whole folder named LimeWire. Close all folders.

There is something not quite right about your system details, in answer to questions 3 and 4 (3. How much ram & 4. Hard Disk space available?) you answered:
Quote:

3. 6.5 gig - 4. at least 150k
First, if you have 6.5GB of Ram, how then can you use it because, as far as I understand, Win XP can only see a maximum of 4GB of ram, unless you are using Win XP 64 bit. And if you only have 150KB on your HD (just over 10% of an old style 3.5" floppy disk) then its a wonder anything works at all.

I guess that you may have made a mistake, instead of saying 150GB you wrote instead 150KB.

Can you confirm that you misquoted your disk space because if you have not then there is no surprise why LW has stopped working.

OK, let me try again. I'm not a computer person at all but here goes. What I mean is that the computer (Dell) came with a 6.5 gig hard drive (I think) or something close to that. Its only two years old. Where exactly can I see how much disk space is left? The computer works fine. Limewire just quit in a snap and had been working fine. I dunno....but thanks very much for the help!

OK, I have 512 MB of total memory with 106.66 available. Total virtual mem is 2.00 GB with 1.96 available. Again, Limewire doesn't work with my firewalls shut off (briefly) but even with them off, I still a firewall icon on Limewire. To my knowledge no additional firewall has been added. Could one have been installed in a regular update? Where can I look to kind if there is another firewall? Also, my music files are now popping and breaking up when I play them and it wasn't doing this before. The rest of the computer works fine.

I have again uninstalled and reinstalled Limewire but still have the same problem. I have a new preferences folder that has loaded and the old preferences are gone as before. I think I have the new Gnutella file in the right place. Any suggestions? This has just come from out of nowhere. Everything has worked great for almost two years. I don't get it. The only thing I've done within the past week has tried to burn a CD and had to make a playlist a couple of times to make sure I had it right but I never did burn the CD 'cause I wanted to add a few more songs but I'm not able to do it now cause I can't download anything. Arghhhhhhhhh!

Mine also just started quitting on me.

Helloooooooooooooooo..........can anyone help please? I've tried everything that I've read on here. Still showing a firewall. I even removed Limewire and installed Frostwire but it did the same thing. Reinstalled Limewire. Called AT&T and they said that they do not block P2P. Any ideas? Thanks.

You know, it's kinda hard to get a handle on your equipment because you are having difficulty describing what you have actually got, but let's give it a try.

1) I presume that you have never dragmented your hard disk, this is one essential maintenance tip that every windows user should do at least once every two or so months. Regular Limewire/Frostwire users should defrag every month.

2) Most, if not all, modem/routers have a built in firewall, your LW & FW could be detecting this. In the first instance you should insure that UPnP is activated in Windows, LW/FW and your modem and if you use a separate router then port forward it.

Although the following link instucts you how to enable IDGC it also shows you how to enable UPnP as well

How to enable IDGC on WinXP SP2.

I think the above is enough for now, let us know how you get on.

Thanks Bob

I'll check what you posted. What I have is a firewall icon that stays even if I shut down both Windows and Norton (windows normally stays off) firewalls. Limewire has worked about flawlessly for nearly two years and then this just comes from nowhere. Norton never gave me any trouble before and it doesn't appear to be the problem now. I think a defrag has been done recently. I'll post and let you know what happens. Thanks so much for the response!

I had the same problem the last couple of days and fixed it by going into the limewire folder (in my computer its found here) C:\Documents and Settings\Username\limewire -- I deleted the gnutella.net file -- downloaded a new gnutella.net.net file (here)which I pasted into the limewire folder. Restarted my limewire and once again it didn't connect so I renamed the gnutella.net.net file that I pasted into my limewire folder gnutella.net -- restarted my limewire and after 30 secs up she came with an excellent connection -- HOPE THIS HELPS -- please let us know

Thanx
