Firewall,and connection. =[

I just downloaded Limewire, I have had it before, on this computer and it worked fine. But now for some reason when I type in my search, nothing comes up at ALL. My globe at the bottom has a brick wall in front of it, and I only have one conection bar. I have tried turning off my firewall, but that isn't working.

WHAT DO I DO??

Hey rna2007

I am having the same problem. I will follow this thread to see what the answer is. I think you have to give some information so anyone can see your initial setup. these questions/answers are as follows:

O.S. xp pro
Windows firewall and avg shield
1G rqm
75 GB H.D. FREE
CABLE CONNECTION
MOTOROLA sURFBOARD WIRELESS MODEM SB4101
lINKSYS ROUTER 2.4 GH WIRELESS Model NO. WRT54GS.V4
Connection from home/office
Limewire ver. 4.9.33 - Java 1.5.0
Service Provider - Charter Communications
Test Page 'worked'
On a network, but not sharing connection
Was able to connect with free Limewire, but when purchasing pre - doe not connect
Get message "Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many
results until you are fully connected to the network".
Yes, I do see a brick wall.
UPnP enabled
Windows Firewall and AVG free antivirus with shield protection.
Living in U.S.A.

Hope to get an answer soon. Very frustrating. I have been working on this all night.

Good luck,
udougy

Me too.

:shoot:I go weeks and weeks without being able to get a connection. I had a few days recently where I managed to get connected - I think the globe always stays behind the brick wall - but under FAQs (I think) it said that Limewire was detecting a Firewall. I have Limewire listed as an Exception so I don't see what the problem can be.

Does this happen on Limewire pro? If so it's not much of an advertisement for shelling out for it.

rna2007,

Try the fixes in the thread below. Go through them slowly. If nothing there helps, please post back with your system details (the thread below has a link to click which shows the details that we need).
If LW Will Not Connect
************************************************** **************
Udougy,

Did you just buy 4.9.33 Pro? That's a really old version released in Oct 2005 (just hoping you haven't been scammed into paying for an old Pro). Did you buy that from Lime Wire » Official Website & Free Download, BitTorrent « (& actually pay the official site)? Let us know if you've just bought that version.

First of all, try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

If that doesn't help, try the fixes in the link I left for rna2007. If none of those help, you could try port forwarding for your router...the instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54GSv4
Don't forget to set up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within your router setup should all be the same number.
************************************************** *************
Dermot2927,

Do the same as I advised rna2007.

Thanks all for your help. I now have it up and running, thanks to all the grateful help. Happy hunting. Wish L.W. would simplify things. I consider myself pretty savvy w/computers, sheeeesh, I wouldn't want to be my mother figuring these things out.
