Tried Everything... Cant Connect

ive tried everything i could find on support sites and on this forum and i have no connection.
here's my system info:

1. OS version? XP

2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall

3. How much ram? 512 MB

4. Hard Disk space available? 33.1 GB

5. Connection type? DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Broadband, SpeedStream

7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.14.12, & latest Java

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? could not connect

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? i have used limewire many times before and this has never happened

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? yes, even after i disabled all firewalls

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? yes

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? windows defender

16. What country are you living in? USA

now can someone tell me how i can connect and why i cant? :bangh:

Who is your ISP?
What's the model of your Speedstream?
Are you port forwarding, or is UPnP enabled on your modem/router (which one)?

Make sure that the XP firewall's allowing LW.
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

In LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. change LW's listening port to something in the range of 49152 - 65535 (eg 65000) > apply > ok. If you have port forwarding set up for your modem/router, you'll need to change the port number forwarded within your router's setup pages so that it's the same as the new listening port.

Did you try the fixes suggested here?
If LW Will Not Connect

Remember that LW has to be properly closed before replacing gnutella.net or deleting the preferences folder(s). Also remember to have only 1 version of Java installed on your computer.

Did you update Windows Defender just before you stopped being able to connect?

more info

my ISP is Windstream (sry)

and SpeedStream model is 5200 Ethernet/USB ADSL

and i tried all the other things, still no connection

Make sure that you don't have a Windstream firewall causing problems.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

It's not a good sign when the port test doesn't work, it can sometimes mean that an ISP is blocking certain ports. Did you try a few different ports in the range that I gave you?

Go into LW's preferences folder (named LimeWire), hover your mouse over the gnutella.net file...what size is that file?

You could try port forwarding for your router. The instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Efficient(Siemens) Speedstream 5200
Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address first. LW's listening port , port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router setup should all be the same number.

the size is 0 bytes

im pretty sure i dont have a windstream firewall running
and i've tried exiting all other firewalls and still nothing

i also tried some different ports as you sugested... no results.

Something went wrong when you first replaced the gnutella.net file...that should be around 20 KB in size. You need to make sure that LW is really properly closed (check in task manager to make sure there's no LW process running) before you replace gnutella.net
Replace the file again, restart LW, then go back & make sure the file's not 0 bytes again;)

ok I did that, and the file size is around 20 kb as you said, but it still won't seem to connect.

Is the port test still not working?
Did you try port forwarding & did you make sure to set up a static IP address first?
Did you try installing the older Java version (linked to in the 'if LW will not connect' thread)?

What has changed since you were last able to connect (new computer, hardware, programs installed etc)?
If the port test still doesn't work, maybe it's your ISP blocking ports.
Try one of these other gnutella clients...see whether any of those will connect.
Phex
BearShare
FrostWire

i tried bearshare, and it connected at first no problem, but the next time i used it it didnt, and still wont.
