Abt comcast/ports, that i dont understand =[ Okay, well i have comcast [yes] and while i have all five bars under connection it says theres a firewall. I talked to a comcast guy and he said that while they dont block the program they block ports: 67 68 135 137 138 139 445 512 520 1080 Now how can i tell what port my Limewire is using and change it? |
You can find LW's listening port by going tools > options > advanced > firewall config...you'll see the listening port in the top right corner. After changing the listening port number, click Apply > ok to save the change. LW's default port is 6346, there's probably not much chance that your listening port is one of the ones that Comcast blocks;) If your connection's ok then you might not need to change ports...LW might be detecting a firewall within your modem/router, an unconfigured software firewall, a firewall associated with where you're trying to connect from (if it's school, work or a condo/appartment complex) etc . So you've always had the same setup, but you've only just started seeing the firewall icon? Have you changed anything within your setup since the firewall started showing? Try port forwarding for your router, the instructions are here. Port Forwarding for the Netgear CG814WGv2 Don't forget to set up a static IP address first, of port forwarding won't work. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router setup should all be the same number. I don't use Windows Defender, but AFAIK it's just an antispyware app. Does it really include a firewall? If there's no Defender firewall, try turning on the XP firewall & configuring it to allow LW (you can turn it off later if you really want, but I wouldn't recommend running without a firewall).
