No I Have Not Figured It Out Yet, But When I First Started Using Limewire I Had No Problems At All. Then I Turn It On One Day To Use It Again I Could Not Do Any Thing So I Started Useing Blubster.

To help you we need more details System details - help us to help you (click on blue link). Sounds like you haven't configured your firewall or else, your router has a firewall or else an ISP issue with using p2p programs.

Newbie Here That Can't Connect

Hello All-
I'm new to this sight. My son had me hooked up on here last week but i had to reconfigure my computer last week and when i reinstalled LW I could no longer connect. Here are the things I know-
OS- Windows XP
Firewalls- Windows dissabled and Norton removed. No more that I'm aware of.
Amount of RAM- ??? I'm figuring a bunch though.
Hard Disc Space Available- ????? A bunch here too.
Connection- DSL with Bell South and an external modem Westell.
Model & Brandname of router- ???? How do you check this?
Connecting from- Home.
LW Version- 4.16.2
ISP- Bell South or ATT. Whatever you call them now.
Test Says- Your Test Worked.
Not sharing any connections that I know of.
This is my 1st try since the reboot.
Port Forwarding or UPnP- Don't know how to tell this eiter.
Security Program- Norton Dissabled
Country- USA

Someone please give me some advise to get started in the right direction. You can contact me at ***

My guess is your Westell router is the unknown firewall. In my experience on these forums, Westell routers (whether they support UPnP or not) are best port forwarded. (1) Very first and most important step in port forwarding is setting up a static ip; see Setting up a Static ip for Windows XP (click on link). 2. Next step is to find your model of Westell, then find it listed at far right column near bottom of this page: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall then find LimeWire listed on the following page after you click that model's link. The LW link will lead you to the next set of instructions for setting up a firewall rule for LW's needed ports. (3) is at start of previous step which is settings for LW. (4) Last step is saving settings for your router, you may need to reboot your router ... not sure about Westell.

The model of Westell will most likely be shown on the actual router/modem. Look at the top or sides. You probably also received a manual with it too. ;)
