Port changing issues and not connecting

Hi folks,

as well as what seems to be the common problem on here (not being able to connect) I seem to be having another issue - every time I change the port number on this Vista machine LimeWire crashes, ker-plunk! When I use the task manager to come back, the port just reverts to 6346.
Anyone able to offer some advice? I should point out that I am doing this on my brother's Vista Basic machine - I have an XP SP2 laptop and have no problems WHATSOEVER, so I am putting it down to this lowlife operating system.
I've also tried every fix suggested on here, and this machine has never had McAfee, ports on my router and firewall are set correctly - any thoughts?

Thanks

David

I've managed to get it to connect :super: well, I've managed to get FrostWire to connect, and if I re-install LimeWire it will connect as well, turned out to be ISP problems, but i'm still having the problem with changing ports.
When I type a new port number in and press "Apply" or "OK" the options window freezes, which in turn freezes the whole application - it seems to be with both LimeWire and FrostWire - operating system issue??

Thanks
David

Try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed.
LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

If that doesn't fix things & allow you to change ports, try changing Java versions (hardly anyone's had a problem with 1.6.0_03 but see if this older version's any different).
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions installed on your computer, before installing this one:)
