LimeWire cannot connect

When I start LimeWire, the signal strength meter indicates that there is no internet connection even though there is. LimeWire is set for full internet & server permissions in ZoneAlarm. Also, LimeWire doesn't completely load. At the bottom, it says [i]Loading Internationalization Support...[/b] and it won't go past that. If anyone knows how to resolve this problem please let me know.

System Information:

OS version: Windows Vista Home Premium
Firewall: ZoneAlarm (free version)
RAM: 3062 MB
Available HD Space: 182.99 GB
Connection Type: DSL
Router Brand Name: Westell 802.11g Wireless USB Adapter
Trying to connect from: House
LimeWire Version: 4.16.2
Java Version: 1.6.0_03
ISP: Verizon
Browser Test Results: Passed
Connection Details: My parent's PC has the DSL box. My PC uses a router, and my brother's is directly connected to the
DSL line.
First try at LimeWire: No. This problem has never occured before.
Saw Brick Wall in front of blue world icon: Yes
Security Programs: Ad-Aware 2007, Windows Defender, ZoneAlarm (the free version), AVG Free
Country: United States

Is your WIndows firewall turned off? Make sure it is, otherwise it will clash with the other firewall resulting in less security & unpredictable results.

Check the top of this section: General Vista Support - Gnutella Forums
If LW is not loading properly then it may be a java & preferences issue, possibly also LW compatibility setting. ;)

Westell devices in my experience are best port forwarded. ;)

Thank you. It helps somewhat. LimeWire is saying there is an internet connection, but only one of its five indicator lights are lit. Also, for some reason it changed my color scheme from Windows Aero to Windows Vista Basic. Can someone please help me with that?

marnieey January 20th, 2008 12:59 PM

i am having problems keeping limewire open in a browser screen. when the progream becomes open it shuts down within seconds if i do not klick on one of its tabs. and it seems to shut down by itself even in the middle of a downloading session? any thoughts

Jesant13 January 20th, 2008 01:06 PM

marnieey, the only thing I can think of that would do that is malicious software. Run a spyware and virus scan and see if anything comes up.

Does anyone know why LimeWire changed my color scheme to Windows Vista Basic and why it won't fully connect to the network?

colin1968 January 20th, 2008 01:08 PM

still no connection

i have had limewire running now for 5 hours still sayin currently connectingive done all ive even deleted lime wire re installed but nothing

im run my system on
windows xp

hard disc space available 232gb
im on lan
isp virgin (they say all ports open)

my son have lime wire and is runnin

Jesant13 January 20th, 2008 01:10 PM

This has to have something to do with either LimeWire's servers, or the update. I hope they fix this problem soon.

Alhaxit January 20th, 2008 01:16 PM

im preety sure limewire doesnt have servers other then the website and the forums. as its p2p . its my guess as lack of interest of outside coders its hard to find problems that they dont have

That can't be it. If you go to LimeWire Forums - Powered by vBulletin (the old forums) it says in the top right corner that there are over 2,000,000 hosts online. That's more then enough. This has to be a problem with the update.

ktvr January 20th, 2008 06:57 PM

yes but if i uninstall zone alarm then my limewire works.....this sucks....what now?

Connection problems

Hey,
I'm also having trouble connecting to limewire. I also use Zonealarm firewall however what has me puzzled is that i was using limewire with zonealarm a long time before it stopped working. It was only yesterday when i loaded limewire like normal and the first of 5 bars will light up and always say "you are currently connecting to the network"

At first i thought it was because limewire was out of date and i always check frequently for new updates, as it happens there was.
So today i installed the new update, still not change.

I then decided to reinstall both limewire and zonealarm and it would still not connect.

So my question is. What is the problem and why did it suddenly stop working??

i'm not even sure why, alli know is that zone alarm is a known problem with limewire and vista. i sent a request to both zone alalrm and limewire tech support asking them how to work around this. when i know more i will post the fix!!!

colin1968 January 21st, 2008 01:35 PM

no connection connected at last

i have finally got connected due to deletein evrythin with lime wire in it and reinsatllin then changein the file now it works many thanx

Jesant13 January 22nd, 2008 11:30 AM

The good news is now LimeWire is partically connecting. It connects enough to display one of five lights lit and show how many files I am sharing. The browser portion works just fine.

I don't get why the browser portion of LW works and the other part doesn't.

The same thing happened to me. the one bar and all. I did what the other guy above suggested and deleted all of limewire and then reinstalled it. Worked for me ;)

Jesant13 January 23rd, 2008 12:29 PM

I deleted LimeWire completely from my computer and ran a registry cleaner to make sure it was completely gone. Then I reinstalled the latest version. Unforunately, it didn't work. The bar is completely red, and it currently says "Loading Internationalization Support". This problem is really annoying and I demand to know what Gnutella is doing to fix it.

Fixes I have tried that have failed:

-Deleting LimeWire completely from my computer
-Deleting the preferences folder
-Updating Java (I already had the latest version)
-Changing compatibility to Windows XP
-Changing listening port (froze LimeWire and now it won't close at all)

deleting/replacing gnutella.net

Try this fix for vista
Click on this link (How to Show Hidden Files In Vista)
In vista the Limewire Folder (or Preference Folder) is found here:-
C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire

[1] Ensure that limewire is completely off (check that it isn't in the system tray-bottom right-if it is click on it and select exit)
now open the .limewire folder and look for and delete the gnutella.net file (see image below)

http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/LW_g...1196869679.jpg
[2] download a new version from (here) and save it to yr desktop
[3] Drag the new gnutella.net file from your desktop into the limewire folder.
[4 Close the LW Folder and start up Limewire

if this doesnt fix yr problem ck out the Limewire Links (If Lw will not connect) (connection problems) (connection troubleshooting)

o2silverado January 23rd, 2008 06:00 PM

save yourselves a lot of trouble and dump limewire .......go to frostwire.com.......I had the same issue tried everything and this was the best fix.....exactly like limewire and you dont lose your music ......:xeri_ok1ani:

Jesant13 January 25th, 2008 01:07 PM

Sorry, but FrostWire has the exact same problem. It must have something to do with the Gnutella network.

Can u please explain to this nit-wit what u mean by "changing the file?" What file? Thanks.

Jesant13 January 25th, 2008 02:29 PM

Submitted a bug report to Gnutella. Hopefully this will help.

Unbelievable, I completely remove LimeWire from my system, restart, run Disk Cleanup, my registry cleaner, and defragmenter, then install the beta and it still is stuck at one out of five connection lights.

Pathetic... :bangh:

Cruisingfool January 27th, 2008 03:01 PM

I am getting the same problem of loading international support. I didn't have this problem with the free Limewire, only after I upgraded to pro. I have Vista Ultimate, and Zonealarm. I uninstalled LW, and re-installed it, still the same problem.

Derridonn January 28th, 2008 10:54 AM

Tried everything y'all said, but still no connection

I've tried everything - deleting the preferences folder, replacing the gnutella.net file, even uninstalling and reinstalling Limewire, but I give up. I'm close to uninstalling Limewire - period. Before I do that, can someone help? My system details are:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Windows and McAfee Security Center
3. How much ram? 228GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 210GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? dunno.....
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.16.2 Java 1.6.0_03
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? TSTT
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. First try
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image Yes, but exceptions have been made in both the Windows firewall and the McAfee Security Center firewall
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I believe my UPnP is enabled
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...lies/smile.gif McAfee Security Center
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Trinidad & Tobago

I hope the information provided is enough to help me. I'll be checking back regularly for a response.

Thanks!:sos:

A kind of solution ....

Since I haven't heard from anyone about a solution to my connection problem with the latest Limewire version, I have come to the conclusion that I am never going to be able to get it working so, to save my sanity, I have removed that version of limewire & the latest java version and downloaded older versions of both from oldversion.com. It may not be the best, and I can't get all the 'help' functions to work, but at least I can enjoy lots of hits for all the titles that I search. Good luck to all with the latest versions.

Jesant13 January 28th, 2008 12:59 PM

I sadly found out what the problem was. It is ZoneAlarm. When I uninstalled ZA and used Windows Firewall instead, I got a full connection.

It's too bad though. I loved ZoneAlarm. But Gnutella had to wreck everything by rendering it uncompatable with the ZoneAlarm Firewall.

:(

I fixed the problem! ZoneAlarm WILL work with LimeWire. To see how I did it, click the link in my signature.

Unable to Connect

I am using Windows XP. I had Limewire installed and working while using Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Anti-Hacker. After running an update I was no longer able to connect to Limewire (Indicator at bottom of screen constantly says "Starting Connection). I ahve since removed Kaspersky from my PC, but am still unable to have it connect. If anyone can help me, please e-mail me. Thank you.
