switching ports/proxies because of isp's

My ISP (Road Runner/Time Warner) is absoulty locking me out of lime wire, i need away to get around the crap they are doing to my connection/router whatever it is. Sorry i'm not very internet setting savy, i'm not a complete blonde but typically my husband handles our networks/firewalls/settings ect. I mean his job is network security so why wouldn't he. He is indosped at the moment and can't tell me how to troubleshoot without seeing the problems i am having through twc. So can someone walk me through in layman's terms how to get around their stuff. I'm running windows xp on an hp pavillion (runs great has plenty of stuff for reasonable gaming, can run like the age of empires stuff ect but fairly slowly), so it's got plenty of hd and ram ect. It's all in my settings. Please email me and get my yim account if u could please. I'm wanting limewire so i can do a mixed cd for a friend of the family, he's in iraq, sorta a fathers day gift.

I did xcom46's suggestion and my number of bars (down on the bottom toolbar) when from none to all of them and i still can't connect through connections (i get to about 54%) and it's still showing me behind a firewall icon....... but my windows firewall has made the exception for it. What am i doing wrong?

See if this helps you.
In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 65000 (or try any ports in the range of 49152 - 65535) > apply > ok. If you have port forwarding set up for a modem/router, you'll need to change the port forwarded to match LW's new listening port. If you have a specific port number allowed thru a software firewall, make sure that you allow LW's new port number.
