![]() I upgraded to Limewire 4.16 today and after hours of trying to get it to connect all I have succeeded in doing is wanting to rip my hair out. I am at a loss because I had been using version 4.14 without any hassles. I have never had to do anything special in order to get Limewire to connect and see no reason why I should have to do so now. Did something change in this new version so that it has to be manually configured now? 1. OS version? XP SP2 2. What firewalls you have? Basic Windows Firewall right now. 3. How much ram? 1024 RAM 4. Hard Disk space available? 250GB 5. Connection type? Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Aeris - TM402G/110 Netgear - CG814WG v2 7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire 4.16 Java 6.3 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Time Warner/Roadrunner 10. What happens when you go there? Test Worked 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Yes. One other computer. My PC is directly connected to the Netgear box and the other PC is wirelessly connected. No other p2p programs. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem, experienced user. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? To the best of my knowledge UPnP. 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? No anti-virus right now. However I am using: Spybot, SpywareBlaster, and HiJackThis. 16. What country are you living in? USA Last edited by AriKnight; February 13th, 2008 at 06:30 PM. |

![]() Most newer Netgear devices have UPnP enabled by default. However there may be the odd model that doesn't work well with UPnp in some circumstances, thus port forwarding is way to go. Very first & most important step in port forwarding is to set up a Static ip: Static ip instructions (click link). Then do the steps in the link Remoc gave you. ![]() Also go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Performance & disable all options there. Some users have had problems connecting with those options. After they connected those options could then be re-enabled. ![]() |

![]() First thank you for the information. ![]() Second, I'm a bit confused. If Limewire 4.14 worked fine without using port forwarding than why won't Limewire 4.16 work without having to use port forwarding? I'm using the same Netgear router and never had any issues with connecting until upgrading to 4.16. So logic dictates that this is an issue within the Limewire program itself and not something on my end. Correct? Last edited by AriKnight; February 13th, 2008 at 06:27 PM. |

![]() I seem to be having the same problem. 4.14. worked fine and now I can't connect to 4.16! I've restarted my computer and checked all port forwarding is fine, and I've done Connect/Disconnect and it still doesn't work! |

![]() It seems that this ended up not having anything to do with Limewire itself. The issue I was experiencing was caused by a bad uninstall of the Comodo Firewall. It seems that Comodo is well aware of the issue with their uninstaller not functioning properly. Basically what was happening was that Comodo was still the main firewall, but I wasn't aware of it because I thought Comodo was uninstalled and that I was using the Windows firewall. Everything was fine when I was using the previous version of Limewire because Comodo had been told to allow that version. When I upgraded to the newest version of Limewire I was not asked to allow it by Comodo thus unable to connect. To Fix the Comodo issue: Download Comodo Uninstall.zip (You may have to register on the Comodo forum to access the file otherwise it might not show up.) Extract both clicapi.dll and fwconfig.exe to your hard drive on the same directory that you had Comodo installed on. Most commonly C:\ Go to START, RUN and type c:\fwconfig.exe -uninstalln and hit ENTER. To Fix Windows displaying wrong information in Security Center: Go to START, RUN and type cmd.exe and hit ENTER. At the Command Prompt type NET STOP WINMGMT /Y and press Enter. Then type exit and hit Enter again. Go to C:\windows\system32\wbem and delete the folder Repository. Reboot windows. The folder will be recreated by the Security Center and will display the correct information. |
