Default Like everyone else, need help (stopped connecting)

Hello there! I just recently started experiencing problems with Limewire, it's been working fine for awhile now, but i installed a new virus protection 'Norton 360'. Limewire worked after I installed it so I'm not sure that its that also, just the other day after I switched to 'Port Forwarding' it started working fine again, but then it stopped the next day.

1. OS version? Windows XP.
2. What firewalls you have? Norton 360, only one I'm aware of.
3. How much ram? 1024 mb
4. Hard Disk space available? I think around 80gbs, could be way off.
5. Connection type? DSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys, WRT54G
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW: 4.16.6 Java: 1.6.1_05
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? AT&T
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says 'Your test worked!'
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? We have two computers hooked up to our modem, but that didn't pose a problem b4.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New Problem
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Port Forwarding
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? I have a few installed on my computer, but Norton 360 should be the only one active atm.
16. What country are you living in? United States of America.

If you need any more info I'll be glad to provide it.

Thanks in advance if you decide to help me!

Linksys, WRT54G is a 'lemon' of a model. The firmware it uses is buggy and Linksys never fixed it. THe device is best port forwarded. Depending on exact model there is a 3rd party fix for the firmware but not recommended unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

Port forwarding steps:
1. Set up a static ip Static ip for XP which is the very first and most important step. If not do this first and correctly before setting up NAT rules then the process won't work.

2. Find your specific model here: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall under Linksys. Click the link, find LW on the list on next page, then follow directions.

Default Rawr!

1. To my knowledge the built in firewall is disabled. (when i disable Norton my computer says there is no firewall)

2. I've already set up a static IP, port forwarded, and put that port through my routers configuration or w/e the site says i should do. I saw that site in a sticky earlier, unlike my most people i read some of them =D.

Thx again for helping!

Things to try:

Try this, install FrostWire, open it, let it connect then close it. Then try opening LW again.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Performance & disable all options on that page.

(a) If LW Will Not Connect, __ (b) Problems with the search, __ (c) Hostiles List

See if you can also get FrostWire to connect. Another to try is Phex to see if you have the same problems. FrostWire, Phex & LW should have different connection ports though.

Could try a different connection and listening port to port forward for LW. Try ports between 49152 - 65535. A good one to try is 64049.
