Trouble Connecting please help

Hi everyone. My Limewrie will not connect to the network and shows that the program has detected a firewall even though my ZoneAlarm is set to allow Limewire to access the internet and Windows Firewall is turned off. Anybody know what I can do about this?

I think your problem is your ISP, Pipex/Homecall. See ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire & find it on the list. Look for suggestions or links within it to other threads which suggest how best to deal with the problem. ;)

I visited this website Security Scan as the ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire page instructed me to do and I scanned all the ports from 0 to 65000 and didn't find a single open port. What do you suggest I do next?

ursula April 16th, 2008 11:24 AM

Hi...

What about port 80 ?

(Serious question.)

Lord of the Rings April 16th, 2008 12:19 PM

I found those tests can be a little deceiving at times. For example, UPnP routers will close ports for receiving unless a particular program with UPnP abilities requests the router to open the port whilst the program is open. So ... if I had LW port set to a particular port, then it may actually show as being open by the test. For some confusing reason I found this to be true with port forwarded devices also.

* Edit: What i meant was I needed to have LW open with the port setting to the particular port for the test to work. If LW was not open, then the test would say the port was closed. And this seemed to apply to both UPnP and router manually port forwarded to the specific port. Perhaps this was just a particular router or mac issue. I don't know.

I tried port 80 as you said Ursula and it still doesn't work. Anybody know what I should try next?

ursula April 17th, 2008 10:58 AM

Hmmm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?????????????????????

er, if you are using the same computer (that won't 'allow' LimeWire to connect) for accessing the internet and these forums, than the probability (very high) is that you are doing so through port 80...
(btw - Never configure anything but your browser to use port 80.)

So, if the above is correct (keeping in mind that you said that the scan you did reported that ALL ports from 0 to 65000 were not open), how are you having these pleasant chats with all of us, now ???

I think the first thing to do is to remove the URL to that site from your favorites !!!

I note that no one has yet asked you the current 'silver-bullet' question:
Have you recently 'updated' or fresh installed LimeWire ?
If the answer is, "Yes," than we probably move into other issues and perhaps a fix.

Big question is always, "What's changed ? What is new ?"

Hang in there !

p.s. You might want to see this > Alternate PORTS for a bit more 'background' info.

LiamSmith016 April 17th, 2008 11:35 AM

My Limewire is set to use port 36818 by default. And yes I have recently installed the newest version of Limewire and Java and I have just updated my ZoneAlarm firewall. My computer has done this before you know. I spent 8 months last year without being able to connect to Limewire because aparently it had detected a firewall. Then one day it starts to work again all by itself. Now its stopped working again, but I thought this time I'm gonna try and sort it out myself and see what the problem is. Unfortunately I've run out of solutions to try.

ursula April 17th, 2008 11:45 AM

Update, heh ?

Oh, well...

If LimeWire Will Not Load

Check it out... LotR and others will probably concur that you need to do a 'clean uninstall' and a fresh install using the 'download to install later' versions of LW and Java... But, by all means wait until you've had a chance to talk with the others...

Getting there...!

LiamSmith016 April 17th, 2008 01:39 PM

I've been to the If LimeWire Will Not Load page and followed all the instructions and it got me absolutely nowhere. Does anybody actually know what is wrong or are people just going to keep suggesting solutions that I've already tried, are wrong, or are completely irrelevant?

Download and install Phex to see if you have the same problems. Make sure of course the program is cleared in your firewall settings. It still may not work, but it's worth a try. Options .. change ISP's if possible.

Could possibly try using a proxy. Some Proxy links on various pages of http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-limewire.html under 1. INSIGHT

PIPEX Problem __________ http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...k-tiscali.html (Overall owner of PIPEX / HomeCall is Tiscalli.)

ursula April 17th, 2008 01:54 PM

Oooops...

Sorry about that. Missed the previous post.

Anyway... Download Phex and have some fun.

Phex - Download

I, and many many others here are so totally fed up with the nonsense that is coming out of the so-called LimeWire developers that... ah... won't say it...

Just try Phex.
You'll like it and it works.
And, you can actually communicate with the developers.

ursula April 17th, 2008 01:56 PM

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a setup, hmmm ?
It isn't... I had no idea that LotR was even here !

But, hey, great minds think alike and all that...

So, Phex for you ?

LiamSmith016 April 18th, 2008 11:32 AM

I think Phex connects to the network with no problem but I don't get any results no matter what I search for.

Lord of the Rings April 18th, 2008 10:57 PM

If possible, try it or/& during off-peak ISP periods, such as after midnight. See if that makes any difference.
