Connection Problems Problems getting the LimeWire or WireShare program connecting to the Gnutella network. (not about connecting to files, that is a Download/Upload Problems section issue.) Please supply system details as described in the forum rules.

Default Connection Problem

Yes, I've already read all the pinned topics. Nothing worked.

1. OS version? Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
2. What firewalls you have? The default Windows one (disabled), Sunbelt Personal Firewall Free Version (enabled)
3. How much ram? 1 GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 1856 MB
5. Connection type? Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? I have D-Link DWL-G122
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.16.7, Java 1.6.0_05
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? SBC Yahoo DSL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It say's "Your test worked!!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No, not that I know of.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? New problem with an experienced user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? It doesn't show me the option to enable UPnP
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Free Version of AVG Anti-spyware, Windows-KB890830-V1.40, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, At&t Yahoo! Online Protection.
16. What country are you living in? USA

1. Make sure your Sunbelt Personal Firewall has a rule allowing LW full access.

2. D-Links are usually best port forwarded. (a) most important is first step, setting up a static ip: Static ip for XP, (b) Settings for D-Link & LW: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall I don't know whether your model is simply a modem or a router or whether it has a NAT protection built in.

3. When updating to the newer version of LW that's out now, good idea to delete the LW prefs folder. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

4. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Performance & disable all options. Then go to File menu > Disconnect & wait a couple of mins. Then File menu > Connect.
