Unable To Browse Hosts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 

I use LW off and on and I just started using it again a couple of months ago, and I can't browse any hosts. When I try it acts like it is searching and then I get a blank screen with no results. Any assistance please? My inform is below:::::::::

1. OS version? Windows XP SP2
2. What firewalls you have? McAfee personal firewall
3. How much ram? 512 MB of RAM
4. Hard Disk space available? used 11.9 GB, Free Space 62.5 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) broadband (Cox Communications)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard Cable Modem
7. Where are you trying to connect from - HOUSE
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LIMEWIRE 4.17.9 JAVA 1.6.0_05
9. Who is your ISP? COX COMMUNICATIONS
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? THE PAGE SAID "YOUR TEST WORKED"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? NO SHARING
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I'VE BEEN ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY BROWSE BEFORE

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?

Make sure you have the show chat icon on for search results. Right-click the top bar (heading bar) of the search results & choose show Chat. That will bring in a new column & when you search you will see some results with the Sunny icon. Browse those sources. Browse seems to work for me.

95+% if browse success will be via those who have chat enabled. For uploads it's much more difficult & even less reliable.

Browse host can be affected by various factors, such as maxed out bandwidth or slots for you or them. Those who are on networks are basically impossible to browse. eg: ip starts with 192.xxx.xxx.xxx or 10.xxx.xxx.xxx (which means they are not properly configured for a start.)

If still problems, make a note of all your settings & delete your LW prefs folder whilst LW is closed; Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)
