bit of a worry

Just new to this forum and this is my first post so hi all.
I just thought it would be a good place to ask how secure limewire is I have had problems with viruses in with the programs. Can you only get music and movies from limewire safely I have been warned to stay away from limewire as it is bad news. I run trend micro int sec pro and it does not like it. I still have trojans I cant get rid of so I got rid of limewire is there something I am doing wrong or is it just bad news
sorry I just relised I posted in the wrong place

hi Mullet35 welcome to the forums. :)

Windows programs & games are bad news to download from gnutella network. Basically, stay away from files less than 2,000 KB (2 MB) in size.
It's a good idea to search the word virus on the forums to get an idea of such issues on the gnutella network & what to recognise to ignore when you see them in search results.

WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on blue link)

Checked link

I just checked your link and its amzing the proglem I am still having is that internet explorer, windows explorer along with adobe reader keeps shutting down system a little slow I have run scan with trend micro, spyware doctor and spybot and they are picking up nothing I did have a trojan infect the system that trend micro picked up but could not remove because it was imbedded in a program written to cd and it warned it was very hard to remove trojans under these circumstances.

I have been using LW for a considerable time with no problems at all, but you do need to be aware that there are some nasty people offering downloads which are not what they state.
I have found it helpful to do a search with a silly file name e.g. "5ttdge" and see what comes up. You can bet your life that any hits contain spam or virii. A further clue is that you can not browse the hosts. Do this a few times and add the offenders to your "blocked hosts" lists each time. This helps to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Hi, gang...

Things are different now...
Used to be almost OK, but for now--- NEVER even try to D/L any program...
You've got at min a 95% probability (not chance) of getting a virus...
This does not apply only to the Gnutella Network... Torrents are maybe even worse right now !
Apps = Zaps ! :yikes:

For you, Mullet35...
Your description of your problems is not exactly voluminous, eh ???
But, it sounds a lot like a common problem caused by M$...
If you're running XP you probably need to do some updates...
That usually fixes at least the Adobe nonsense.
Not sure if the above comment applies to Darth Vista...

and...

Well, NO surprise there !
PC-TOOLS Registry Mechanic is great... Spyware Doctor is not.
(I've been using PC-TOOLS apps since 1984.)
Spybot is useless. Yeah, I know... That comment will upset many people.
Tough. It's fact.

This is not actually true...

It is not very hard...

It is IMPOSSIBLE.

If one does not use REAL protection software than one has no grounds for complaint.
