1. IF using McAffee firewall then turn XP firewall off. Two firewalls will result in less security not more & result in side effects due to clashes also. ;) 2. RAM is random access memory. It's how much memory your computer can store temporarily in the RAM processor units. 3. Modem & Router .. check the wires leading from your computer. One will lead to a box that is a modem or router & on it will say the brand name & a model number. Modems are how you connect to the internet. :) Most routers & some modems use NAT which behaves similar to a firewall. ;) So depending on which brand & model you have it may be part of the problem. |
thank you! i will try it. one moment please.... I check both firewalls and Windows Firewalls were off and McAffe firewall was on. LW still does not respond to the changes. The connection is still one bar. Thank you for helping! But is there another way to fix LW? |
You tried these things? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html such as disabling performance options & connecting manually. ;) Find out the information about the modem/router. :) |

Same Connection Problem I have the same Limewire Version 4.18.3, the same Linksys router and use a COX Communication broadband connection for my Dell Lap Top. I have the same problem as Coach Mike. I have McAffe as my firewall and have disabled the Windows firewall. I have followed all the instructions provided by Limewire Customer Support for enabling Limewire as a program in McAfee and specifically entering the Gnutella settings in the DNC & TNC (?) port settings. Four weeks ago I was able to remove the firewall briefly using the Customer Support directions but for some reason the brick wall reappeared when I open Limewire. The directions no longer are able to remove the firewall. I would appreciate any help anyone can give - I've followed carefully all the customer support directions and it doesnt remove the firewall. |
DJB, After HOURS of messing with the instructions that everyone suggested, I finally got it to work again. I believe the piece that finally got me over the hump was replacing the gnutella file. I downloaded it from one of the earlier posts, and saved it. Then I went into the .limewire folder and deleted my existing gnutella file. Then I dragged my NEWLY downloaded file into its place within the .limewire folder... re-booted my computer and IT WORKED! Try that... and good luck! Coach Mike |
