For those of you who do not have LW Pro, you can try an older version Download LimeWire Basic 4.16.6 - FileHippo.com or 4.16.3 should be reliable.

But you will still need to make an exception for LimeWire (LW) in the XP firewall. And if using a router then you will need to tell us which brand & model if still problems. And sometimes when using a different version of LW, you need to remove the previous firewall rule setting & re-add it for the other version. See more about setting up XP firewall here User Cant Connect - LimeWire

We will need your system details to help you further.

As for XP firewall; (a) Quote from Grandpa:"... it depends on which view they are using to view control panel there are 2 choices Classic and Category if they are using classic the way you told them to find the firewall settings is correct if they are using category then 6_pac's explanation is correct."

(b) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post178620 Explains how to disable it, but at least an explanation about how to access it depending on which view you are using.

It's my guess your connection problem is your router/modem, so we need details about it.

Talking the mozilla solution to LW/XP connect probs!!!!!

i am so happy to report that i found that i was able to get past the xp firewall problem via simply downloading mozilla-firefox (free) and while installing it designate it as your default browser! that's it man, just fire up firefox instead of your explorer (which you can still use with firewall intact when not using LW) and ta-da, i was able to connect in seconds to LW!

hope this will help other novices like me!
