You don't need to be on the Linksys site (I'm guessing that's where you went to register your product) to log into your router. You just need to open whatever browser you use (IE, Firefox etc) & then type in the default IP address for your router (in your case that's 192.168.1.1 - same as mine in the screenshot below). Click on the thumbnail to see a screenshot. Attachment 4218 Once you type that IP address into your browser & hit 'enter'...you'll come see a screen asking you to type in a username & password. Just use the default username & password (as in the port forward instructions) unless you've created your own username & password. When you enter the username & password, you'll be able to log into your router & there's where you'll be able to set up your port forwarding:) |
conection probs part of the problem is linskys router needs a patch to be able to allow port forwarding As a sysop on mma-central.org.uk i routinely get people conectable if you have any trouble contact me there or alternativly try here first if no joy give me a shout PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall |
I'm pretty sure I got the static IP stuff set up ok. I'm pretty annoyed that I can't figure out the username and password though...the directions don't mention any default ones...and when I ran the program to get that info from my comp, it says the host name is "Brittany," which I used for the username, but what about the password? I thought I was blind and didn't see that the instructions had told us the default username and password, but I even hit "ctrl + F" and typed in "user name" & "Password" and nothing...figures! Why is this turning out to be so hard for me?! I feel like a huge idiot! Thanks for putting up with me :P |
Try leaving the username field blank & use admin as the password. Does that work? |
yes, that worked! I finished alllll of the steps for the static IP........and wouldn't you know, when I tried to open the internet, it didn't work. I know the last step said that if you couldn't get internet after that, then go back and change your configuration to what it originally was (automatically look for IP)..which is what I had to do in order to get working internet again. What do you think went wrong? I'm seriously getting ready to give up! |
I don't know what went wrong. I've never had trouble with a static IP. Did you make sure that all the info that you entered (subnet mask, default gateway, DNS server numbers etc) was correct? Did you ever successfully delete LW's preferences folder? Try another gnutella client & see if you have more luck. Phex FrostWire BearShare |
I guess I don't really know...I thought everything was correct but apparently not. I might just forget about it...I just don't have much luck with computers! Thanks so much for all of your help though, and for putting up with me! Keep up the good work. |
