I am having the same problem. I just bought a membership and when I try to access files nothing happens. No error message nothing. I am using Windows XP. Checked the windows firewall, called the ISP, disables Windows spyware and uninstalled my Sheild virus protection. What's up?

It is happening to me too!! I have Limewire for a while now and i decided to install McAfee recently and suddenly it won't connect... so i uninstall McAfee because i thought it was the problem!! But even with my old antivirus back (Avast), limewire won't connect. I checked the window firewall and everything i could...! I have a router (D-Link) but it was working before installing McAfee so is my router could be the problem??

Hello All,

I too have been experiencing the "one bar" syndrome.

Not all bad, I discovered the forum and registered accordingly.

Here are some details pertaining to my system:

OS version? XP
2. What firewalls you have? None that I've installed, just what's on the PC
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available? >250GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband ADSL
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? D-Link DSL-200
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.18
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Dodo
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Page said "Your test worked"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Not that I'm aware of.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I've been using LW for ages but recently had phone line disconnected due to rennovations and hence ISP codes were removed from phone exchange. The servives have now been reprovisioned but can't access LW as before.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP port 6346
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...lies/smile.gifAvast
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Australia

I hope this helps in trying to identify a possible fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

1. Delete your LW preferences folder for a start. Check other options also here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

2. Have you checked your network settings? Do you still have the same DNS number ... it might need to be changed. Your ISP should be able to advise there. ;)

3. XP has its own firewall. So you will need to allow LW full access thru it. User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Your D-Link, is it an old one? How many years old?

This just happened to me after the new upgrade....

The simple answer is to completely uninstall Limewire....The correct way to uninstall is Start > All programs > Limewire/Uninstaller

Go to the Limewire site and download the new version from there and save it into a folder.

Install the new version from the folder and everything will be back to normal.

This worked for me on all 3 of my computers.....Maxx
