My Firewall Problem Resolved

:xirokrotima:

Hello eveyone !!!!!!

I have had an unfixable firewall problem, forever...

I read most of the posts about un-nstalling and deleting files -- did not work, but,

I finally tried again, but this time, VERY CAREFULLY searched and removed limewire references in my SYSTEM REGISTRY.

Re-booted and installed the program again, and to my supprise, Turbo-Charged Connection.

I hope this helps.

How do you do this. Having all sorts of problems connecting even with Norton firewall off.

Which part do you need help with??

The deleting of files? Or, removing from registry.

Removing from registry.

First, do you have access to yahoo messenger or msn messenger?

It would be easier to walk through?

If not, let me know what Windows you are using, this procedure is really not that hard, but it is easier to walk through.

Could you post the steps here so others can benefit as well...:)
Thx

My repair method that worked.

First, read entire post entirely be "VERY CAREFUL" when editing Registry. [BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY]. I would even put in a Restore Point on your computer.

First, uninstall Limewire;

Second, using the search function in Windows, do a search (advanced), meaning, select to look in all locations, the default is just indexed, search everywhere, even check the box for hidden and system files; in the search box limewire. Remove these files.

After that, whatever version you are using the Start - Run, type
regedit then click okay.

You will see two panes side by side. Scroll the left pane to the very top until you see computer, click on this once to just highlight.

Click on Edit in the menu bar and click on find. Type in limewire (case doe's not matter).

Now this is where you have to be careful. There are two types of entries, one in the left pane and one in the right.

When the system finds limewire, you will want to delete it but, you will need to decide where to delete.

Usually you will need to delete the Key on the Left Pane, even though limewire was found in the right. It is usually the last Key visible in the pane (sometimes highlighted). Be very careful, first click on the suspected key and watch the right pane. If the entry stays the same, then delete the left pane Key (right click for options), ONLY if there are no other software program names in that Key. If the entry changes in the right pane when you click in the left, until you see the limewire name, like I said, it is usually the last Key or highlighted.

If there are other software names in the right pane, right click on the limewire entry in the right pane and only delete that module.

To continue search, just use the F3 key or Edit Find Next.

This is sort of time consuming, but for me it was worth it.

Again, backup your registry and be very careful.

After this, restart your computer and install Limewire

When I launched Limewire, at first, the dreaded firewall icon wass there, but waited less than 30 seconds, the icon disappeared and was Turbo-Charged.

Please let me know if this worked for you, 'cause I was elated when I finally got it operating,

GOOD LUCK !!!!

If you still have problems, which I don't think you will, check you permissions on all firewalls and don't forget to check Window's Defender, a lot of people miss this.
