Will not connect

Hi. I am having trouble connecting to Limewire, and I have tried everything.
I have never had this problem before. This summer I was at home, and when I connected directly to the internet by cable, it could connect, but then we bought a router, and since then I've had problems. The connection bar stopped at the first level. I thought it would work when I came back to my place, but the problem's still there. I share my router with those I live with (I have an apartment in the basement). I have windows vista. I followed a link and did everything it said. Checking Norton Internet Security (I even turned it off to see what happend), deleting and re-installing. I also tried downloading an older version (several actually) and looked for the gnutella-file to delete it. The problem is that this file doesn't exist in my limewire folder. I searched it thoroughly. I get a message from limewire every 5th minute or so: "Your machine does not appear to have an active Internet connection or a firewall is blocking LimeWire from accessing the internet. Limewire will automatically keep trying to connect you to the network unless you select "Disconnect" from the file menu."

Help me please! I'm turning crazy!

Sounds like the router has made the difference to your connection issues. Some routers do not utilise UPnP very well. Which brand & exact model of router do you have? :)

BTW is there any reason you did not supply your system details in your first post? It could have saved you & us a lot of time.

Hi! The router at home is a Belkin router. I don't know more than that. I have no idea what brand the router at those I live with is. I'm not a very technical person:)

What do you mean about system details? I'm norwegian, so I'm not sure what you mean about that:)

Unfortunately Belkin routers are best port forwarded. I could give you instructions but ... I'd need to know the model number. ;)

Belkin routers do not utilise UPnP mode at all well. (UPnP means the program requests the router to open a port for it.) Without UPnP, manual port forwarding to open a port for the Belkin router is probably the only way you will get connected. :)

I'll call my parents when they come home from work later today and ask what model number it is! What will happen then the next time I'm home and use limewire on my router? Will it stop working again? Thanx for the help btw!!:D

Hopefully not stop working no. If the router is port forwarded, that only needs to be done once. But first time port forwarding can seem a little confusing to do. With model number I will probably be able to give you a link to specific instructions which will at least make it a little easier for you. :)

I forgot calling my parents:S Too much work and school that fiils my head these days! I'm pretty sure this is the router:
Belkin : 4-Port Router

Here are the steps, most important is the first one.

1. Setting up a Static ip for VISTA (this number will be used in step 2 so make a note of it)

2. Go to this page, look for Belkin at far left column, then find F5D5231-4 (#5 or 6 listed under Belkin) PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall once you find your model, click on that link, then find LimeWire listed on following page & click that. Directions are there. :) Note: in the LW settings, both listening & connection ports are best kept the same. ;)

BTW yours might be a variation of the F5D5231-4 so check which one looks most similar. eg: F5D5231-4v3
