Assistance would be much appreciated...

Hi...

I know it must be dreadfully tiresome trawling through all these emails but I'm another one of those people who keeps getting the message "Limewire is currently connecting to the network"...when it never does.

I have read through a fair few posts here and none of the suggested ideas - turning off the Windows firewall, making an exception for Limewire in Windows Firewall properties, uninstalling and then reinstalling Limewire - have worked.

I'm not an overly computery person so I'll try my best at filling out the computer statistics thingy. Bear in mind that my computer is really **** and old and very crap. lol. I am also at college (in Australia), BUT I know the reason it's not working has nothing to do with my college network disabling Limewire; I have a friend living here who is using Limewire currently without any problems.

If you can help me it'd make my day.

Here's my stats:

1. OS version? Windows XP

2. What firewalls you have? Windows firewall

3. How much ram? 512 MB

4. Hard Disk space available? 1.97 GB

5. Connection type? LAN

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Really not sure, sorry... :S

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? College network

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire 4.18.6, Java 1.6.0_07

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? At college, I really don't know.

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says "Your test worked".

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? I think so...considering it's a LAN connection.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. A new problem as an experienced user.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
Yes, there is a brick wall. Should there be one??

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?
I don't know what this means. :S sorry!

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...lies/smile.gif
Windows security, sophos antivirus

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland).: Australia

I hope this can be interpreted in some way or another!

Cheers,

Try a different connection & listening port to your friend. Good ones to try are between 49152 - 65535 such as 64049. You can change them via Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewalls.

Other than that, I'd highly recommend http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html even if you've tried them before. You will have a much better chance of connecting if you persist with these ideas. :)
