Two users on 1 comp. one connected one not...why??

On my home computer, my husband has his own user name and I have my own. On my side, the limewire is connected, all bars green on the bottom left corner. My husband on the other hand, has only one bar green. The rest are red and he cannot download any songs! Why would this be???

Try deleting the preference folder, the instructions are in this Sticky...

So I am following instructions to get in and delete preferences. I run on Vista and it says

C:\users\username\application data\roaming\Limewire.

And to delete the limewire folder. Well, I get as far as entering username, but cannot find anywhere that it says application data!! Help!!

It's hidden. So you will need to turn on show all files & folders option in view options in your search window. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

Make sure the different LW's on your network are not using the same port. ie: go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall. And make a note of each. If they are set to use same connection & listening ports, change one to something like 64049. If your software firewall requires a port to be included in its firewall rule, then change it too. :)

The reason for this is a router will reserve a port for a single user for each single application for each computer. At least I think that rule applies here, not sure, I might be wrong if it's a different account.

still not working

I haven't had time to try to fix this until this morning. I did everything that ya'll said. Deleted the pref folder and Limewire kinda reprogramed itself. Well, when it got going the bars at the bottom are the same; all red. So what can I do??? Yes in my Username in the computer everything works fine. But when I switch users and open Limewire under my husbands name, it is all red. :bangh: Help!!

Try changing your husbands compatibility mode to run as admin; Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link)

Else, Try an earlier version: LW 4.16, 14, or 12 LimeWire - OldVersion.com
Else try these Download LimeWire, LimeWire 4.16.3 Download 4.16, ___ Download LimeWire, LimeWire 4.14 Download 4.14

However ... that may mean removing your other LW version for the other user.

would it be easier...

Nothing changed when I put it to run as admin. Do you think that it would be easier for me to just remove limewire from my computer and download it again. It was running fine before, it just all of the sudden changed! Or is there another program for downloading music that is better??

Did you try changing ports on LW's advanced firewall options? I know when I tried to run LW in different accounts on same computer I had same issue. ;) When that happens, it's a router issue. Routers tend to reserve one port per user per application. (I hope that made sense the way I worded that. lol)

desertshi September 7th, 2008 07:40 AM

lol. Yes it makes sense and I did take a look at both the numbers, they ARE different. Aye aye aye. I just don't know what to do! I am going to try uninstalling and then reinstalling. Do you think that will make it all okay? Hopefully easier anyways. I generally know my way around the computer, for an average user, but this is just too much for me! LOL.

If re-installing doesn't help there are a few tips in this Sticky you could try...
