Default Starting Limewire drastically cuts my bandwidth

I run a "speedometer" program that measures my bandwith speed. Normally I get a download speed of 10 mbps which is what I pay for.

Every time I start Limewire, the download speed *immediately* falls DRAMATICALLY, like down to between 0.5 mbps and 2 mbps EVEN BEFORE I SEARCH FOR ANYTHING OR TRY TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING!!!

If I close down Limewire I revert back to my normal 10mbps

Consequently, anything else I run goes at snail speed!

Grateful for any ideas!

Default Adjust Settings

Have you tried going under tools and then options? When you do, click on the 'download' and 'upload' categories. You can adjust the amount of bandwidth that you want to dedicate for each category.

The default setting has it set to 100 percent. It just depends on how fast you want to download. If you lower it, of course it will take longer to download files but you will be able to surf the web faster.

As far as uploads, I have mine set about 20 percent. But that's just me.
